Need Advice . . . . Laptop or Tablet

I haven't posted in a really long time, but I am needing some advice. With Christmas coming and the black friday sales, I am wanting to either get a laptop or tablet. I thought I was completely sold on getting an iPad, until I saw WalMart and Sam's hp 17.3" laptops for BF.

This will be a family gift, and we travel for our son's sports. So the device would be mainly for travel plus a little extra something for when we are home. I like the size of the tablet and already have iTunes. The laptops have a Wow screen size, and the Sam's one plays blu-ray, which we have a small collection of already. The prices are pretty comparable.

I would like opinions. My husband says get whatever I think is best (no help). My son says he would be happy with either.
