Re: cable users - do you pay extra for boxes?

Another comment: Yes, charge for everything, one item at a time. It all adds up. But in my area no other choice. I am in the woods, no way does a dish work. Direct TV used to cut out. And my neighbor with DISH simply gave up.

Re: cable users - do you pay extra for boxes?

I never think or worry about what I pay for cable. I just WANT it to come on when I click the remote. That's all. It could cost twice the money and I would pay.

Re: cable users - do you pay extra for boxes?

I have TWC : basic digital cable, basic internet, 1 DVR box. I own my own internet equipment so no extra fees for that. I have a friend who works for them and helps me get a "deal". I pay $104.99 for the cable and internet, $6.98 fee to rent the DVR box, $12.95 fee to USE the DVR, $2.77 for the program guide which used to be free! $7.33 in taxes and recovery fee/franchise fee/broadcast tv fee. Way overpriced, but the trees are too tall and block my view for DirecTV and no FIOS in my area.

Re: cable users - do you pay extra for boxes?

At home in Florida we get our cable included in our HOA but we do have to pay for the boxes ourselves - HD boxes are $15/month each and the small regular boxes are 3 a month for free and one we pay $3/month for. We do not use the HD boxes just the regular ones.

At our summer place we have 2 TVs and the boxes are free. our cable here is included in our yearly camping fee.

The company I'm with charges $4.95/mo for my 4 boxes on 4 TV's. Not too bad.

Re: cable users - do you pay extra for boxes?

This is one of my pet peeves! Verizon advertises a special of $89 / month for basic FiOS, but they fail to advertise that you need to "rent" all the equipment. When I added the cost of the boxes, etc., it was more than I was paying with Comcast!

On another note, I was cleaning a closet this summer and found a small cable box from Comcast (the one they had prior to switching to all digital). I went to one of their stores to return it. Come to find out they have been charging me $1.99 per month (for over a year) for this darn box I could not even use! They NEVER informed me I needed to return it...so much for the "self-install" kits. LOL. In the future, I am going to insist the techs come to my home. Sheesh.

I have Comcast. They charge extra for the boxes. I have 2. Actually, I think 1 comes with my plan, and I only pay for the 2nd.

My bill with them is ridiculous. My rate for the triple play package, with all the movie channels, costs $170. When its all said and done with everything they nickel and dime me for (modem, outlets, taxes...the list goes on and on) my actual bill is around $220.

Comcast can get away with this type of rate in my area because they have no competition. Although I could switch to DirectTV or Dish, but there is not other cable type of option in my area at this time. Others who post here may have options in their area, and then will get better rates.

I think the rates, and charging for every other little thing is pretty standard with all cable and satellite companies.

Hi Lynn, I live in the Northeast but we the option of Comcast or Verizon. My cable bill had increased to $177 this summer-crazy! I downgraded my service and dropped my phone service (I have Comcast). The rep I spoke to told me the FCC prohibits taxing Internet and almost all taxes on cable bills come from phone services.

My bill is now around $119. I wish it was lower, but I can live with that. I only pay $6 in taxes!

Re: cable users - do you pay extra for boxes?

I have cable for my internet but for tv I have Dish satellite. I pay $26 a month and get one box free included in that, but it runs two separate televisions. Comcast is a rip off.
