Re: cable users - do you pay extra for boxes?

Up north, I have 2 basic boxes from Charter but don't pay anything extra for them. Our HOA negotiated 2 boxes per condo as part of a long term contract. At the beach, I have Brighthouse, but no boxes. I'm not much of a TV watcher so no HD, DVR or premium channel packages for me.

With dish you get one free box that covers two tv's. I have 3 tv's, but chose not to rent a box. I have local channels and basic cable for $56 a month. My only issue with dish is they charge for any service call, no matter the issue.

Yes. I have a combo package (phone, cable, internet) ... about $200 a month. Only one TV set.

Re: cable users - do you pay extra for boxes?

We use Optimum (formerly Cablevision) for our internet, phone and TV. I have 5 TV's, each with a box (no way to watch TV without one), family room, kitchen, basement and two bedrooms. All five are HD boxes and one is a DVR box. Each box is $6.95/mo plus $1.00 a month per remote plus an extra $2.00 for DVR capabilities. Really, they honest and truly charge extra for the remote. For the privilege of these services I pay $225 a month.

Re: cable users - do you pay extra for boxes?

we have FIOS.

we pay $20.00 per month for the DVR box and $6.00 a month for the standard box that hooks up to the DVR box. I can use the small standard box in my sitting room and watch the shows I recorded on the DVR box in the living room.

there is also tax applied to these 2 items too.

Our total bill for FIOS is about $180.00 a month, but this does include internet and a land line phone.

Re: cable users - do you pay extra for boxes?

I only have the very basic local channels package with an adapter box. I'm beyond the 20 mile radius for new digital antenna tv. :-( after 3+ years of being tv free I caved. The adapter box is free but if I wanted the next level up and needed a box I believe they said it was $3/mth. I don't know if they still do but when I had comcast last time in addition to the box there was a fee for the remote it came with too!! $1.99 or something. And I'm sorry but if you need the box to watch the programming it should be listed as part of the price

Charter cable here - they just went completely digital. People were forced to get boxes for all their tvs. The deal was each extra box is free for 12 months then it will be $6.99/box.

Yes, as long as I can remember there's been a "rental" fee on the boxes.
