Bought an HP laptop a few years ago; it came loaded with Microsoft Edge. The presentations made it sound so wonderful.
I'm not a tech geek, but I hate Edge .... and am not even sure why. It just seems to slow things down, and lately I have to close it down and re-open when it freezes.
Not sure how often Edge does updates, but I thought they would be automatic .... right?
What's your take on this program?
TIA

I have it on my computer which is probably about 5 years old or so. It is also an HP. I really have had no problem with it. The only thing is occasionally for some websites, like paying one of my credit cards I have to switch to the chrome browser for that website to work properly. Otherwise, I've had no issues. Mine updates automatically.

I'm on an HP laptop that is at least 8 years old. I find it has slowed down but I'm not sure that because of Edge. It notifies me when updates are required and will do them automatically. I have no problems with it.

no issues at all. it does use bing as its search engine, but i changed that to google.

I have a HP Envy laptop that was purchased from BestBuy about 3 years ago. It came with MSN Edge which I use for many things. I have no problem with it and it updates automatically. I also use Google's Chrome for many things.
I will say that when I had all the software transferred from my old HP laptop to this one, I had all kinds of problems. Slowness, the fan was constantly running, and the laptop was running very hot. Best Buy replaced the laptop but I still had the same issues.
My investigation found the culprit to be the Trend Micro antivirus software that I had been running on the old laptop and had transferred to the new one. It had completely taken over. This is one of the antivirus programs pushed by BestBuy.
I had it removed and installed a free version of Bitdefender which does not interfere with anything and works just fine.

Edge comes with most all Windows computers. It can be uninstalled but that takes the administrative mode to get it to delete. I just never use it. I prefer Chrome. Edge is a browser I use as backup.

@cody2 Go to Chrome's website to download the app.
As for your "other stuff," go to their website to download. This way you can download the "latest" version.

I like Internet Explorer much better, but it became so slow because Microsoft kept adding things to it. Edge much faster (do you have a bug?), but I'm not impressed with quite a few of the functions.
Edge is updated when Windows is updated and as far as I'm concerned, it's too doggone many times. The update changes too many layouts and other things on Edge.
