Windows 8 Question?

If you have a new computer with windows 8 I have a question my neighbor is thinking of getting a new computer she heard that you have to open a Microsoft account to be able to use windows 8 is that true? I told her I have no idea I have windows 7 she does not want to open any account if you have windows 8 did you have to open a Microsoft account.
