Thanks @gardenman for this information.  We did this and Windows 10 is now installed with no problems and for free!  Took about 90 minutes or so.

I can't thank you enough for providing that link to download Windows 10 for free!  You saved me and another family member the cost of 2 new computers and we are very grateful!  It was very easy to do and I had no problems whatsoever.  Again, many thanks!

I'm glad it's working for everyone. It's a good deal. Windows 10 costs about $140 or so to buy, so getting it for free is much better.

I followed the link and updated my 8.1 windows to windows 10  early and it still works.

Black horse, I have an 6 year old computer running 8.1 This machine has a lot of data on it. It would be a major job backing up my data and doing a clean install. Windows 8.1 will be supported until 2023. This computer will not last that long.
