@apple1964 wrote:I remember my laptop updating for about two ours after I shut down. [a few days ago] I am going to check both my computers to see if that new update installed or not? Thanks O/P for starting this thread. I think my next computer will be a Mac. Tired of Microsoft and there updates already.
@apple1964 @willdob3 sorry to be the bearer of bad news but both PC's and MACs update their software from time to time. You won't bypass updates with MAC's.....
Of course they update. I'm not concerned about Apple products doing anything like what Microsoft does. If they did, no one would want to use them & there would be little benefit to switching. Forced updates are just one reason I'm switching. The list of reasons not to use Microsoft products is long and well-known. I'm not making an uneducated decision.
Plenty of people have had problems after Apple updates. I had games that wouldn't run after an update. Whether it's a Windows or Apple computer, usually it's older programs that are effected.
My laptop was new. Things that got messed up should have been fine. The only solution Microsoft offered was to pay them more money. The things that are wrong with Microsoft that concern me are not problems with Apple.
You could have reset or restored your computer to the way it was out of the box and not pay Microsoft a dime. Did you do that?
You don't get it. What they did and are doing and will continue to do is on purpose. To make money. I'm not talking about little glitches. Things like that I can fix. And not something fixed with a restore. I'm done. I'm moving on.
I get it alright. If you want to change from Windows to Apple, do it. You don't have to rant and carry on to justify your decision. What I posted is true. You can reset your computer if you want.

My son "updated" MY computer. And now I have no internet. I can not believe he happened to be on my computer and he thought it was a good idea to do the MicroSoft update.
I am upset. He said he would work on it and get the internet back for me - I am still waiting.

The big difference in updating Windows and Apple products is the variety of components that can be in a Windows machine versus an Apple machine. Windows computers are assembled by multiple large manufacturers and literally thousands of smaller computer stores. Now each Windows computer can use one of hundreds of motherboards that are currently on the market, one of hundreds of processors that are ccurrently on the market, one of hundreds of video cards that are currently on the market. The total number of possible hardware combinations for a Windows based computer is likely in the billions.
Apple makes their computers themselves using exactly the same hardware for each model of computer they make. SInce the first Mac they've likely only made a hundred to a few hundred hardware combinations as opposed to the billions of posssible hardware combinations out there in the Windows world. Each piece of hardware, whether in a Windows or Apple based computer, uses their own proprietary software (the driver) that has to play nice with the OS. When something changes in the OS, like an update, there's a chance for something to go wrong.
In recent years manufacturers have gotten better at following Microsoft's guidelines on making their devices and drivers compliant and problems have been relatively rare, but it's not unusual to find someone using some very obsolete hardware/software in a newer computer that does have a problem when a new update comes along. Microsoft's more open model with no real hardware restrictions makes their job of creating and updating the OS many, many times more complicated than Apple's more closed model, but it also results in lower prices and more variety in the computers available to the consumer. No matter what you do from simply web surfing, to the most complicated 3D CAD creations, there's a Windows computer out there to handle it.

That's odd. How are you on here now? Actually that would be your provider and not your computer @drizzellla.

I guess I am rather lucky. I have never ever had an issue when I've updated Windows. I have the automatic update feature on and it does it's thing when it needs to. For major updates like versions with patches and new features (it does take a little longer) but I've never encountered a problem after an update.

@drizzellla sounds like network connection. Not Windows. Call your provider...

Yes it does. You should check the SSID/ Name, and the password of your router and devices.

We were on the phone an hour and a half today with our network provider. Still is not resolved. Because they/we can't figure out why 2 laptops, 1 tablet and 2 phones are just fine - and why one computer is unable to get a network connection.
The one computer that can not get a network connection is the computer that was updated to Windows 10.

@drizzellla, please check the driver for your wifi adapter. It may need updating.
Administrative tools, computer management, device manager, network adapters then locate your wifi adapter and double click. Click on the driver tab then update driver. Let the computer "search automatically". If there is an update download and install.
