We were on the phone an hour and a half today with our network provider. Still is not resolved. Because they/we can't figure out why 2 laptops, 1 tablet and 2 phones are just fine - and why one computer is unable to get a network connection.

The one computer that can not get a network connection is the computer that was updated to Windows 10.

I'd recommend you get into the device manager and uninstall your wireless adapter.  Reboot your computer and let Windows reinstall it.

@drizzellla, please check the driver for your wifi adapter.  It may need updating.

Administrative tools, computer management, device manager, network adapters then locate your wifi adapter and double click.  Click on the driver tab then update driver.  Let the computer "search automatically".  If there is an update download and install.

Thanks for the information - worth a try.

My network provider wants to send out a new modem. At an additional $10 per month. I think they are just throwing the new modem idea out there because nothing else we tried worked. And they can charge me more $ per month.

@apple1964 @willdob3 sorry to be the bearer of bad news but both PC's and MACs update their software from time to time.  You won't bypass updates with MAC's.....

@itiswhatitis

Of course they update. I'm not concerned about Apple products doing anything like what Microsoft does. If they did, no one would want to use them & there would be little benefit to switching. Forced updates are just one reason I'm switching. The list of reasons not to use Microsoft products is long and well-known. I'm not making an uneducated decision.

I know all computers update but, there are a lot of problems with some of windows 10 updates. At least from my experience. [I should have stated this better.}

          I agree with you, @apple1964 and @willdob3.   I've worked with Apple and Microsoft devices since the 1980s, and I was pleased when I could move solely to Apple.   Of course they have updates, but they're so relatively trouble-free and so different from Microsoft updates they probably shouldn't both be called the same thing since that invites comparison.   It's really two different "animals."

          I use Apple computers and mobile devices, and have done so for a long time.   iPads and iPhones, and desktops.   For certain, some people run into problems after updates, but relatively few do and the issues are simpler and easier to fix in the vast majority of cases.   If we were to run a comparison of the percentage of Apple users with problems to the percentage of users of other devices, it would be clear which one is more trouble-free.    As someone who not only has experience as a user but also as IT support,  I know which systems have more frequent problems and also present with more complex problems.    And, of course, Apple devices are safer from attack...  not perfect, not completely safe, and we have to keep a watchful eye...  but still safer.

Indeed.

And my husband's iPad mini had an update a few weeks ago; the update screwed-up several of his apps. He was not amused. Don't ever believe that Apple updates don't mess things up; that's not true. It's just anything else; Some people may have no trouble, but other people do.

When I got the notice for the Win 10 Creators Update, I downloaded a virus update, did a complete scan of the computer, viewed privacy settings, etc. Then I left the computer on and went to bed. It updated over night, so I have no idea how long it took. Got up the next morning, checked everything out....so far the computer is running beautifully. No problems at all.

              I certainly agree that no one should be foolish enough to claim there's any device that's completely perfect, absolutely trouble-free.    However, Apple's updates tend to be infrequent, speedy (certainly never take hours and hours, or all night), and usually have no problems overall.    They do have numerous models in use, and of course a percentage of users run into glitches.

            Often the bugs are specific to the particular model they're using.    I've used iPhones for 8 years and an iPad for 5 years, and 2 Macs at home (for 15 years and much longer than that in business) and have no problems related to updates and I update exactly the same way everyone else does.

            If mobile apps are screwed up after an update, the onus is on the app developers and not on Apple.   App developers have access to the beta versions of every pending iOS update well in advance and are supposed to test and assure compatibility and issue their own updates if need be...   unfortunately, some of them wait for the iOS update to occur first, having done no preparation for it,  and then their users end up being the "testers."   Again, that's not Apple's fault.   Now, if Apple apps had problems after an update...  that is their responsibility.

            I understand some people like Apple, others don't.    It's fabulous that we have choices, and so much of it is personal preference, history, etc.    But coming from an IT support world, I know from experience that there's less work needed to support (and teach to use) Apple devices.

Nothing in this life runs perfectly and that goes for electronics's too. I find that apple products are easier to use and navigate though then the other type of tablets [and I have had several other kinds]

@apple1964

My laptop forced Windows 10 on me and hijacked some of the free things I used to be able to do on it. Ruined an expensive laptop so that I won't use it unless I have to. Microsoft CS told me I could purchase their apps now and then I'd be able to use those features again. No thanks.

My laptop is always updating and never gives me a chance to approve of the updates or refuse them. I'm shopping for my first MacBook because of Microsoft's aggressive & unwelcome behavior. I can't wait to be done with Microsoft once and for all.

Very well put.... I am going in that direction too. My brother got his  first Mac and he said it was pricey but, worth every penny. And he is not a easy person to impress believe me. This happened to me to with updates and some did not even process so I am about done with microsoft products too. I am glad that tablets and Ipads do not have microsoft on them and see how much better they run. My first tablet was run with microsoft and it was horrible glad to be rid of that. Have a nice day!

I understand of course they will be updates but, not as many as PC"S have. And not with the problems that PC'S have.

I agree, uninstall and let Windows reinstall.  I had this happen with a major Windows 10 update this spring and no ability to get online after it happened.  I tried everything (all mentioned here) and ended up for the first time taking my laptop to a computer repair place, and he didn't even have to ask what was wrong as they had been flooded with this question.

I could have called and he could have walked it through with me in a minute, but he did it, unistalled and re-booted and it all came back and has worked perfectly ever since.  He didn't even charge me.

He said the school nearby had all their computers affected like this and he had gone over and fixed all of them.

If this doesn't work, call a reputable computer service/repair and explain your problem.  I would not get a new router for additional $$ before you try the simple things.
