Re: What is the easiest (least amount of stress) way to activate a Tracfone?

I've had tracfones for at least 10 years. Probably longer. I usually get a new bundle every year when HSN has a special that includes a new phone, minutes and a year of time. Usually that costs less than buying a new year card, so why not?

Each year I transfer all my minutes and my phone number without any problems. At first I did it by calling in, but now I do it online because it's much easier and I can take my time. It takes a few extra steps to change over the phone number, and they can be kind of confusing. But that's why I prefer to do it online where the steps are written out and I don't have someone on the other end of the line while I'm fumbling around with my glasses, lol.

One thing to note is that when you transfer minutes off a phone that had triple minutes, you wont get all of those minutes onto the new phone. They will only transfer the base minutes since the triple minute benefit was for the original phone. Meaning, if you have 60 minutes on your phone that you want to transfer, the new phone will only get 20 of them because that's all you bought (20 tripled onto the old phone = 60) For some reason, it doesn't matter to tracfone if your NEW phone also has the same triple benefit. But anyway, I went around with them on this issue before because I wasn't getting "ALL" my minutes transferred when setting up my new phones. This was why.

All that to say, I've never had a problem setting up a new one. And I go through it every year. If you tend to get frazzled with lots of instructions, then maybe get someone to help set it up.

I googled Tracfone corporate office - and there it was - right on the home page.

Well, all I can say is - even when i get them done for me at radio shack by their techie guy it usually still takes about an hour - and these guys really know what they are doing - so I am mystified that some here say it is so simple and fast. They must speak Indian so when they call the customer service # they can communicate with the person who answers the call and doesn't speak english.

I never said it was fast. I just said that I've never had trouble. There IS a process to it, and it does take some time. I do it online, so that also eliminates any possibility of reaching someone who doesn't speak English.

I speak English. I have had several conversations on the tracfone toll free number, and never had to speak Indian. It was a simple process, and did not take over a few minutes. My new tracfone was activated within an hour, but I was certainly not on the phone speaking anything other than my normal TX language. The representatives that I have dealt with all knew their jobs. No mystery about it.

I switched my number from a Verizon phone to a Tracfone, I did it on line and really had zero problems. Kept my same number. This was maybe over a year ago.

Thankyou happy housewife---as I mentioned I DID have the Miami number- and a great
tech but couldn't find it because I'd had the old phone for a couple years. Couldn't resist the triple minutes but I do find the ""touch"" is off --texting is not ""spot on""-- I don't know what the problem is- I don't have giant figures but will have to look for a stylus.

Re: What is the easiest (least amount of stress) way to activate a Tracfone?

Last year I purchased 2 tracfones and called them for setup. I had a minor delay because I didn't follow the directions and didn't have all the numbers ready. I was switching from virgin mobile. Once I got the numbers, it was easy to setup with a rep. Maybe took an hour. The rep stayed on the phone to make sure they activated. I bought 2 of the recent TSV and did it in their website. I was activated with minutes in less than a 1/2 hour. I still need to do my mother's phone, but I'm not anticipating any issues.
