What is the best virus/security program?

I've used McAfee religiously over the years. It even did a full scan on Friday. Lo and behold, my laptop was infected Saturday with a nasty virus. I ran another McAfee scan and it said my PC was secure. Ya, right. I couldn't get rid of the virus and ended up having it professionally fixed.

I want to be sure I'm using the best security program.
