I heard that Lenovo has bought IBM's servers. What does this mean? What does it mean to the public? Can someone explain to me>

Re: What exactly is a server?

I'm no expert but...

A server links computers and processes information between them.

If you have a computer system at work, they are all linked to a common server...and can compute and share information just to other computers in that group.

Servers are used to process credit card payments...they swipe your card, it is processed by a server for the CC Company, and the money is deposited in the business account.

Web servers connect us to the internet - like cable, AOL, Verizon. There are companies that set up server systems for businesses.

Re: What exactly is a server?

Thank you so much. When I worked at a hospital the main computer for all the branch hospitals was at the head office in another city. So I guess that was the server for all the branch hospital computers.
