WHO LOVES THEIR PRINTER??

[ Edited ]

When it makes sense, I tend to buy the best quality I can afford and then keep the item nearly forever.

Well, the time has come for a new computer printer, and I'm really baffled by all the choices.

I currently own a Hewlett Packard Lazerjet printer, purchased in 1991 for $700  .... and it's been a real work horse, having paid for itself many times over.     At about the same time, I purchased a separate fax machine, which has been gone for years now.   The laser printer cartridge lasts forever and over the years I've probably made thousands of copies with my small business.   (No such thing as wireless when this was manufactured.)

Now, I want a new printer for black & white primarily.  Don't think I need color or to make photos, but wouldn't rule it out.    I was looking online and saw quite a range of prices,  and many features, most of which (I think)  I'll probably never use.   However, I did see one printer that also had the fax feature, which I would like having, as a convenience.

I've had friends buy small printers that used a TON of ink, and practically fell apart within a year, so I don't want super-cheap.    I guess I want a "mid range" printer.

I'd appreciate any feedback you can offer ..... and if you happen to LOVE your printer, the make and model would be really great.

Thanks !!

Tink

Re: WHO LOVES THEIR PRINTER ??

I had a HP(Hewlett Packard) printer that was pretty old. I bought an HP Envy 5530 that I bought from Best Buy for around $100. I love it! With my old printer I had to plug it in to my computer to print anything. This one I can print wirelessly and also can print from my iPad and iPod Touch.I really don't think you can go wrong with HP.

Re: WHO LOVES THEIR PRINTER ??

If you had excellent-good results w/HP printers why not stick w/them?

I love Epson.  I purchased my first one in 1999 when I purchased my first comp a cherry red G3 iMac.  Printer & iMac lasted 13 yrs.

My 2nd was an Epson which lasted 1 yr.  I dropped it! Smiley Mad  It was USB/electrick & wireless.

My 3rd & current printer/scanner is also USB/electric/wireless.

As for the cost of ink, I usually go discount - ink4Art.com.  However, most times Epson gives steep discounts if you sign up on their website.

I stick w/the manufacturers that provide excellent/good results for what I need to do as well as CS & warranties.

FWIW.... Most printers/scanners have always had a choice option if you want to print in color or black.  At least on a Mac it does.  Don't know how it works on a PC.

Re: WHO LOVES THEIR PRINTER ??

If you do a lot of printing and it's all B&W, buy a laserjet.  Some are very reasonably priced.  Most inkjet printers are very cheap - they're all plastic after all - and will probably only last a few years at most.  As everyone knows, they're practically given away because manufacturers make a small fortune on ink.  So, (a) consider the cost of ink and (b) buy only the features you need.  I like the three-in-ones: printer, scanner, and copier.  I think most people wouldn't have need for a fax because you can scan the document, then email.

It's the ink, not the printer that is expensive.  I've found printers on sale so cheap, it paid to throw the perfectly good old printer out, buy a new one as it was cheaper than buying ink cartridges.  Price the cartridges before buying.

I like my present Canon printer and the one right before it. Since they went to the "ink tank system" many years ago, I spend very little for ink. That, and in my opinion, Canon makes the best printers. I have owned many of the other top brand printers, but I always have ended up going back with Canon.

Yep, I've done this too. If you only need black and white a laser jet is the way to go.  Fast, and the ink lasts much longer.

I brought an HP7640 printer during the summer. It is a nice printer that uses two ink tanks. It connects with USB, or an Ethernet cable, and prints from a smartphone or a tablet.

I looked at the HP8620. I liked this printer but it weighted 30 lbs. It also uses four colors of ink. This printer is faster than the 7640.

HP has a ink program where you pay to print so many pages a month. I noticed they will sometimes give customers more than one free printing month. HP has printer sales often.

Get another Lazerjet.  They are the cheapest to use and the toner does seem to last forever.  If you really think you need a color printer, I like Canon.  Get a model which has seperate ink cartridges and built in fax.  Faxing may be used in business but, I know I don't fax anymore.  It may be a feature that is hard to find.

Re: WHO LOVES THEIR PRINTER ??

I bought an wireless Epson 3640 color/ black& white printer with fax & I like it very much .... prior to that I had a Lexmark which is 15 years old & still working but, it is not wireless ... I also bought a HP wireless printer from QVC and sorry to say it was not a good purchase ... I would buy another Epson if I had to.
