Unable to copy or send photos from IPad to email

Hi.  Recently having a problem copying or sending photos from my photo library to gmail. Even if I take a screen shot. I have an older iPad Pro, and iPhone 15+.  Are there any settings that I may adjust to fix this? I have tried all the Google help, but can't seem to get a fix. I rebooted, re started,  Have not had a problem like this til recently. I haven't changed any settings. Thanks for any help! Susi.

@Susic, probably a stupid question but did you click on the plus sign on the left?

I don't have one of those. I place a check mark ✔️ on photo, then the upload button to gmail. Normally the photo would appear in body of letter. I also copied and pasted . Now nothing happens, just blank section. I was able to load photos to Walgreens and order prints. But if I want to send a photo to friend, nothing transfers. Wondering if some 

Privacy or security thing is blocking.

I moved a few buttons around and it has worked again. Maybe Walgreens 

purchase jump started it. Very strange ...
