The WII

Hi, I just received the Wii, for my birthday. Can someone please tell me what the purpose of the tennis racket, baseball bat etc..are. I have the two games it came with sports resort and wii sport, and the directons tell you to use the standard remote. And one other thing if you are suppose to use the tennis racket etc..where do you connect them to? Thanks in advance.
