Actually I'm the one who posted it needs to be moved. If you don't, get a repeater or range extender.

We both did. I suggested it the day she posted the question and you confirmed it after she came back the next day and said the device was in the cellar.

Sorry, glb. Didn't mean to slight you; sometimes I get confused on things. I am very thankful for all of the info posted. Obviously, I am not up on all this tech stuff, but, I am trying to learn. I have gone to a store where the clerk was just rattling on and on about all sorts of things that I knew nothing about.
I want a device that I can connect to the internet from almost anywhere. I don't need all the bells and whistles, just something reliable that can be used almost anywhere.

Is your Kindle the Kindle Fire? If so, that will get you online. Your problem is the modem and router in the lower level.
If you have cable in the upper level of your home, you can move everything upstairs. The only thing you'll need to buy is a splitter. It will allow you to connect the modem/router to one side and your TV to the other side. As I posted, you can also buy a range extender. Moving the router/modem would be a lot cheaper and you will get a better signal.
If it was me, I'd call the people who installed your modem/router and tell the installation needs to be fixed. Have them come back and put it in the correct location.

you have to be near a wifi signal to use wifi. if you want to use the tablet no matter where you are you need to by one that's carrier based but also has wifi so you can use the wifi when you are near it to save on data usage. I don't know what tablet you have but i'd get a 10 inch tablet if you're going to watch movies etc. also it's a better choice if eyesight is an issue. Pages load like regular pages in most cases. Samsung makes great tablets like that. Just make sure the tablet allows you to use an SD CARD so you can put pictures etc on that to save the tablets memory for adding apps etc.
