Re: TSV HP Laptop Shipped

[ Edited ]

Received my TSV HP 15.6" i3 laptop yesterday. I am setting it up right now. It walks you through most of it. After the updates they did when set up, I went in and clicked on it again and there were more. It is doing it right now. I adjusted the volume and waiting to adjust the brightness when the updates are done. Before you do anything you have to set up a Microsoft Account as I didn't have one. I skipped the registration and will do that later. be sure to check the boxes you DO NOT want as it goes through the screens. They are all checked so just touch the check mark and it won't do what you don't want. I got the gold and it is a true light gold.

Update:  My HP printer set-up wirelessly in a few minutes, I deleted all the live tiles ( as they are still in the program list) and I will load my Microsoft Office 2007 tomorrow ( it is compatible with Windows 10) and then add my email accounts. I didn't sign into McAfee but it is running and I did a scan. No problem. I was going to add AVG but will wait and see. So far with the updates done I see not much slowness.

@MKR14...do you have to set up a Microsoft account if you did NOT get the office software?

Your gold computer is beautiful.  I was debating between the rose gold and gold and I decided to go with the rose gold, 17 inch WITHOUT office.

I really don't need a new computer as I have a HP purple laptop, but mine is 4 gb and I really, really, really liked all the features in the TSV from the Q.  My laptop is about 2&1/2 years old and rather slow at times.  I just updated to the creator and it seems a little better, but still.

ALSO...if you look at HSN, they are previewing a laptop for tomorrow's TSV....NOT a good deal at all.  It's a 15 inch...with a printer for $499...BUT only 4 GB, 1 TB, no lifetime warranty, NO backlit keyboard.  I like the fact that we got the backlit, 2 TB, lifetime warranty, 6 easy pay, and on that weekend, I did NOT have to pay tax....because it was a "tax free" weekend for us here in South Carolina.  Like I said, I got the 17" without office.  I paid the $699...and for what we are getting/got compared to HSN's TSV.....we got a super deal, I believe.

PS....the HP laptop I have now was from HSN...but it's like their TSV for tomorrow, (4 gb but I also had lifetime support, which theirs tomorrow does not) and it costs $400 over 2&1/2 years ago.

Any problems setting your computer up?  I have an "advanced order" in the rose gold and also have the new VIPRE that HSN sold last week as my super protection against viruses, etc.  I was using the older version of VIPER before getting this new, updated one and love the VIPER.

@shell garden Yes you do need a Microsoft account as I didn't buy the Microsoft Office Software either. The rose gold looked beautiful also. The computer was easy to set up as HP walks you through the initial set up. I have an HP printer and that was easy to set up also. I turned the brightness down on the screen as it was too bright for me. The backlit keyboard lights up as soon as it come on. I changed the wallpaper background and took Cortana off the bottom of the screen. I can tap on in Programs if needed. After the updates the backlit keyboard may be off when all of them are done as mine went off. Just tap the F5 key and it will come on and hit again when you want to turn it off.

Alex-the HP Rep has a website (wrestlingwithtech.com) that has videos to show you about this computer under the top heading QVC Airings. Very informative also. Just post when you set it up and if I can answer anything for you I will.

The volume was loud so I also turned it down. I deleted the tiles as I don't care for them. I added a mouse so I can use either the touchscreen or the mouse. They don't interfere with each other either.  I haven't used any of the software that came with it yet. I am going to use my iPad for emails for now for a week or two to be sure there are no problems on the laptop and it has to be returned.

The specs to this computer are no longer on QVC so I went to HP.com and put in the Model# and printed them out. I also took a photo of the Model HP specs on the side of the box it came in. Let us know how the rose gold is and if you like it also.

@MKR14....thank you SO MUCH for your wise, valuable input.  I will definitely be hunting you down for questions, lol.

I am excited....I think we got an excellent deal, especially looking at tomorrow's preview of the HP laptop that HSN will be offering.  That is NOT a good deal at all.

I am really excited about the backlit keyboard too.  NEAT and they don't always come with that feature.  WOO HOO.....

I'll be in touch and thank you for your response.  I will just set up a microsoft account....wonder why we have to do that all of a sudden?  I don't remember having to do that with the one I had and I have an HP with lifetime support.....then again, maybe that is what's it's about.  I remember having to set something up to get registered with the lifetime on this one and the one coming has that too...so, maybe that is why.

Have a wonderful day.

@Mama Mia....I think that @MKR14 can answer better than I can.  But, I think that the "Square Trade Warranty" is purchased separately if you want an additional, 1 year; 2 year or 3 year warranty on your computer other than the one year and spillage that was offered with the TSV.

I did not get the additional warranty, but that is something you purchase separately.  Hope this helps and is correct.

@shell garden. Signing up for Microsoft is probably that Windows 7 OS and earlier versions may have not been solely Microsoft based. There is a way to bypass signing in every time but I just have to find it in the Settings as Windows 10 has a different configuration. I can post if I find it unless you like to sign in each time. I am the only one here to use a laptop.

Yes we did get a good deal for this computer with the Tech Support-that is only for questions and not for fixing hardware or software problems. The Tech support can help you find things or show you how to do something on the computer. The HP Accidental Damage and Spills Policy by HP is nice but I probably will never use it as mine stays on my desk and I never have food or drink near it. The extra PC Mover Software is nice if needed. With the PrinterPix a few years ago I got a small canvas of the photo in my Avatar here and it was nice for free. There is a coupon here for that here also. The keys are easy to use to the touch. I had tried to cancel this computer but it shipped anyways. I am glad it didn't cancel as it is really nice. I am glad I had recorded the TSV when it was on and kept it as I am watching it now that I have the computer. QVC should have left the item stay up even if sold out so we can leave feedback on this computer. At least the specs and videos on it would still be helpful to us as Customers.

The new HP REP is awesome and I hope they keep him! Alex is informative and nice to watch. He explains much more than any other HP Reps they had before. Smiley Happy

Re: TSV HP Laptop Shipped

[ Edited ]

@MKR14....my laptop that I have now (I ordered from HSN about 2&1/2 years ago) has WINDOWS 10 so that is why I am not remembering having to sign up for Microsoft.  But, I just may be mistaken.  Anyway, I don't use the touch or the tiles....I am old fashioned and just click on the "e" at the bottom which is microedge and use a mouse.  Don't like the touch feature either and won't be using that.

PS....I do sign in each time on this one (it pops up my name and I put in my password)...no big deal to me.  Like I said, my computer has windows 10 on it.

YES, YES, YAY>>>>>>  I also recorded the presentation of the TSV.  I have a DVD/VHS recorder and used a blank disk to keep and watch as you are doing.  Great minds think alike, lol.

If you get a chance.....watch tomorrow TSV on HSN...like I said, it's the same computer (even the colors except they don't have the rose gold that I ordered), and it's got different and less configurations.  Only 4 gb, only 1 TB...no backlit keys, no lifetime support (I have this on my current one)... and only in the 15 inch size.  Yes, they are throwing in a printer, but those are a dime a dozen, lol....  HSN has deals on their regular printers for as low as $59.00 and that's about the cost of the replacement ink cartridges, LOL.

I think we are going to be happy with our new computer and like I said, I will only be using the mouse and the "e" (micro edge) at the bottom of the screen as I am using right now.

Thanks. I will watch HSN's laptop tomorrow as I had it set up to record.  Throwing in a printer with a less than what I want computer never tempts me.

Great minds do think alike. I have looked for probably close to a year for a computer and I was not going to buy a 4 gb ram computer as I have 6 gb ram on my Toshiba I have now. The screen is nice but when I add some photos I will really see how nice it will be. The new HP is very quiet.

I keep a Rolodex on my desk with all my passwords in it. I write them down immediately when I set something up so I don't forget the password and sign in. I looked but I did not have an account with Microsoft.

The Square Trade Warranty is an extra charge not included. It is either 2 or 3 years with a choice for deductible or not also. I have used Square Trade many times and they are excellent.

My next purchase will be a new IPad Pro to replace my iPad 4. I still have my iPad mini 4 also. I really use them more than my laptop but I still needed a laptop that would do what I needed when I needed it to.

I do wish I had gotten the 17" since I leave it on my desk but am happy at what I have so far. Smiley Happy

Re: TSV HP Laptop Shipped

[ Edited ]

@MKR14......yes, please do watch the HP TSV on HSN tomorrow.  You will definitely feel like I do now, that we got the deal of the century, IMO anyway.

OH HECK YES....I, too, have to write my passwords and such down, lol.  Too much and too many to remember.  I was going to get the 15 inch, but that is what I have now in purple color.  I just decided to get the 17 inch, in the rose gold, and try something a little bigger (especially when we can watch movies on it, lol).  You will love the 15 inch, gold....so pretty.

You mentioned why the Q took the TSV info down from the website.  Two things...(1), they eventually may bring it back especially since I do not think every color sold out.  I looked on the computer page and saw them just a couple of days before they took them down, wanting to see if there were any reviews, and they did have some of the colors still available, like the purple and the blue.

and, (2)....just wondering if when the Q does offer more laptops later this year, either as a TSV, ODO or just because, ....that they don't want customers to compare what we got to what they are going to present and realize we, in fact, did get a better deal than the rest of their offerings, lol.

Either way, I will look forward to your thoughts on tomorrow's TSV at HSN.  WE SCORED, lol.
