TROUBLE WITH WINDOWS VISTA INSTALLER

I get an error promp-the windows installer service could not be accessed-this can occur if the windows installer is not correctly installed.

I'd like to fix this without doing a system restore-I can't install my new printer-any ideas?

Is it difficult to save all my pictures-I've never done this and I don't want to lose all my pics.
