Windows 7 Gadget HELP

Brought my laptop with me to my daughter's house. Went to put events in my calendar gadget on the desktop. Could not do it. So I went looking for another gadget as I had done in the past. No choices.... something about getting ready for Windows 8 and live gallery would only have the most popular gadgets. ALL I WANT IS ONE CALENDAR WITH EVENTS OPTION SO I CAN TRACK MY BUSY SCHEDULE BY DAY AND MONTH. Wow I never expected this. Is there a workaround or a place I can get a new desktop gadget.
