Re: Sound Problem - Windows 7

I caught my neighbor outside today that sold me the notebook. I asked him about the speakers and he said it would probably cost too much to have them fixed. He suggested getting separate speakers and said it would bypass the speakers inside. I bought one speaker and it has helped.

I could go back to my old notebook but it has the smaller screen and I am hooked on the 17'' screen now. The 14'' looks so tiny now.

Re: Sound Problem - Windows 7

TootyJane, I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7. I'm not at all computer-savvy, but I already followed a troubleshooting tutorial: Went into Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Sound/video and game controllers. I have Conexant CX20671 SmartAudio HD. It says it is "working properly." I also "updated" this driver. I don't believe I have a sound card (??)

I did a Sound "test" on my Speakers. Both left and right are working. I checked the mixers and all volume levels are midway.

Amber, I only listen to audio on YouTube videos. I have audio on games I play (like Candy Crush), but my problem is a matter of the audio disappearing if I move the timer backwards on a video to re-listen to a section of a song. If I come back an hour later, I the audio is back again.

It seems I have always had trouble installing and/or upating Adobe Flash Player. It hasn't always installed when I went through the procedure. I was successfully able to install it (or at least I think I was) about 3 weeks ago. I'm thinking this may be the source of the problem though.

I use mostly FF and Chrome browsers, with Chrome for the videos. Sometimes IE. I don't know anything about Java Script, but will look into that and I'll also try listening in each browser. I also never heard of Vimeo {#emotions_dlg.blush} and will check that out.

Thanks for the suggestions!

When you have sound problems, it is just in Chrome or does it also happen in IE and Firefox? I had an issue where I got NO sound at all only in Chome and only for YouTube videos. It was a Flash issue. Chrome and Windows each maintain a Flash file and I had to disable one in Chrome to get the sound to work. Here is a link to a fix you can try. Try disabling the first version. If that doesn't work, enable it again and then try disabling the second to see if that fixes it. That fixed it for me. At some point, one Flash version updated and I got the "Macromedia has crashed" message over and over again and I had to switch which version of Flash was disabled, but that fixed it.

I don't know if that's the problem, but it's worth a try if it's happening in Chrome.

Re: Sound Problem - Windows 7

ChynnaBlue, I just tried listening to a video in Firefox and I guess the browser IS the answer.

I know a few of you have already suggested trying other browsers. I had come to use Chrome as the most reliable browser for almost all my purposes, but it now seems like it isn't good for this purpose! When I listened in FF, I turned back the clock on the video at least 20 times every couple of measures of the song, and the audio was fine each time the video resumed. This never would have worked in Chrome.

For now, I'll do my listening in FF, but when I have a little more time, I'm curious to see if I can get it to work in Chrome.

Thanks again everyone!

Re: Sound Problem - Windows 7

puglet1 - YAY.....music on then!Smile

I did look up the versions of Adobe Flash Player "current" for the browsers just in case you might want to know....

IE version of Adobe Flash 12.0.0.38 [ this is what it says I'm using on the Adobe site ]

Fire Fox version of Adobe Flash 12.0.0.43

Chrome version of Adobe Flash 12.0.0.41

...........Another idea, completely "uninstall" Adobe Flash and reinstall the current one. I always go to their site to do this..... Have a good day.
