Re: Several Friends Bought Smart TV's

@Sooner.  I have no trouble using them but I have a small Samsung TV in the bedroom that constantly reverts to modes I've never seen before then I spend weeks fooling with it to get it back to where I want it.  Woe be the user who accidently hits a wrong key on the remote.  I'll never get another Samsung TV.

We bought three new Samsung  smart tv's this year. We haven't had any issues setting them up and using them.

Re: Several Friends Bought Smart TV's

I don't have one and, honestly, I don't want one.  It seems like that's all they make now.  I really (like REALLY!) want a larger tv for my living room but I wish I could just get another regular HDTV and call it a day.

I have a Roku3 and a Fire Stick and Tivos, so I don't need any of the extra stuff as a part of the tv.

It just seems like the more features any one given electronic item has, the more chance of stuff going wrong.   Things now seem more like you need to replace everything every year or so and I'm one of those crazy 'use it, take good care of it, and hope that it lasts a very long time' people.

Re: Several Friends Bought Smart TV's

I tried to buy a non-smart (a stupid TV) but I couldn't find one. So I had to buy a smart TV and most of the stuff on it doesn't apply to me. I like simple stupid stuff.

Since I, too, have no interest in the 'smart' features, I've been wondering if it's possible to just not have any of that 'turned on' (or whatever) and just operate like any other tv.

I just want it to operate as a tv and plug in my Tivo and the other HDMI streaming devices like what I do now.

@chickenbutt

There were  some things I turned off. One of  them was a privacy setting I changed when I set up the TV for the first time. I can't remember what exactly that was about but it had something to do with tracking what I watch.  I also turned off the wi-fi connection to my router because I don't use streaming services.

Re: Several Friends Bought Smart TV's

We have Samsung smart TVs, and there was no issue setting them up (albeit, I didn't partake in the installing). But we have a Sonos remote, that is a smart PITA!
