Need to update my old Samsung Galaxy S5...yup...it's that old. I never changed phones too often, and this one...'til I dropped it in the toilet Sunday night was still working great.
I liked this phone a lot. I have Apple products too but will stick with Samsung for my phone.
Verizon guy yesterday, judging me as "one who a phone isn't that important and only want to spend so much" suggested A42. I don't love the reviews. And don't trust the quality. It costs today what my 7 y.o. phone cost then. I don't think I'd be getting quality I'm used to.
Other end is Galaxy S21 newest which I'm afraid will be 1k!...that I don't want to do, if I don't have to, but would much rather not "cheap out" and get a quality phone, especially since I tend to keep them long.
I'm not that educated~Anyone have suggestions, feedback, pricing advice for latest Samsungs. Is there something perhaps only a generation back that might be fine and be a little less expensive?
My carrier, as I said above is Verizon.
Thanks in advance.

@amyb I'm right there with you. I too owned a Samsung Galaxy S5. Planned to keep it when I switched carrier to Consumer Cellular. However the Galaxy S5 could not be unlocked to transfer to a different system. So, I had to purchase a new phone. I chose the Samsung Galaxy Ae10 as my replacement and have been totally satisfied with it's quality and function. BTW---my service with Consumer Cellular is only $30/month. Hope you find a Samsung that you like in your price range. My Ae10 was $100.

i have two samsung phones..... one for personal use, one for business use.
i have an old S6 and a newer note 10. the S6 has really served me well, but when i am ready to upgrade that i may try the ZFOLD.....it looks intriguing. whenever i decide to upgrade my note 10, i will probably get another note......have had two so far and they are easy to use, take great photos, and are dependable......and big, which is what i prefer.
yes, if you go with new or newer, you will likely get close to the 900 - 1000 dollar mark. samsung though makes excellent quality products that last and i would not hesitate to spend that on a phone again.

I am a Verizon customer. The sales person does not have too many Samsung phones to sell customers.
You have a few choices the S21 or S21 plus. These two phones will run on all of Verizon's 5G networks.
The two phones are the same they only vary in size and price.
Look online for information about promotions before you go to the store.
The company should offer you a loyalty discount.
Dr. Tech a YouTube channel may compare these two phones.
You will find many reviews for phones online and YouTube.

I too had an S5 that I replaced exactly a year ago with an unlocked A21 that I purchased from Amazon ( so if there were problems I could return). Today that t is between $200-$300.I had my Verizon tech set it up; bought SIM card from them and gave guy a $20 tip. DH bought an unlocked Samsung SE 20 which is G5 and top of the line. Amazon sells it for $500-$600. I'll never buy another phone directly from Verizon and literally saved hundreds of dollars. We own our phones free and clear, so monthly bill is very manageable.

I turned in my iPhone 7 a couple weeks ago for a Samsung Galaxy S21. $700 in monthly payments added to our bill for the next two years.Yeah ridiculous price I know. However I needed a phone with a larger screen than my iPhone. Was getting hard to see things easily with my old(er) eyes and progressive lenses. And I def didn't want to downgrade to obsolete technology.
Hub and I have the T-Mobile over 55 plan with unlimited everything, our bill was $83/mo for the two lines which includes insurance, fees etc . With the purchase of my new phone our bill is now $114. We made sure we could afford it by giving up something else which was cancelling our cable tv.
I really like the Galaxy phone. Bit of a learning curve, coming from the iOS platform. Not too bad though and I love the latest technology.
