Question on getting a new Ipad

I have an old ipad air that I can not update anymore so I need to get a new one.  Is it easy to transfer info from the old one to the new one?

Thanks

Re: Question on getting a new Ipad

Unless I'm mistaken, once you sign in with your Apple ID you should be good to go.

Don't remember if all the apps transfer, but they'll be available in the Cloud to redownload. It's been a while since I bought my last iPad.

Re: Question on getting a new Ipad

@Jeddy  Go to your settings, then General, then at bottom of page you should see "Transfer or Reset iPad". Click that, then it will say "Prepare for New iPad" clk. Get Started. It will also say, "Make sure everything's ready to transfer to a new iPad. Then it should walk you throught it from there. If from there you have any difficulties, you can always call Apple for further assistance.

Re: Question on getting a new Ipad

@Jeddy @Hi Jeddy, first you need to back up your data to the cloud before you trade it in (or donate, or whatever you decide to do with it). You do this in settings. After you've backed up the data, then you can erase it and restore to factory setting. You do that in settings too and it's simple, just follow the prompts. Once you have a new iPad, it's a breeze to download your data (including apps and passwords, everything) from the cloud. It does it kind of automatically and takes care of itself. I don't remember exactly how to start the download - maybe you turn it on and it starts. But I just remember being amazed at how simple and seamless it was.

You might need to update your new iPad to the new ipadOS. Hope this helps.

Re: Question on getting a new Ipad

@Jeddy, when you get your new iPad, make sure that your old one has been backed up. When you start your new one and you sign in with the same Apple id as your old iPad, there will be a few options on the screen - set as new, set up as your other iPad, or set up as another Apple device (if you have one), and I think transferring from a android device. Just choose set up as your other iPad. I wouldn't be surprised if there are software updates, also. After your new is up and running, I like to go to Settings>general>about, then I change the name of my iPad to my name + what generation ipad I have. If you are not keeping your old iPad, there are a few other things that you need to do on that one. But, I would call 800-MYAPPLE and they can go through each step with you. If you're not comfortable starting the new one on your own, you can call them for help. Hope this helps.

Depending on where you purchase it the store sometimes will do it for you.

I had the Geek Squad at Best Buy do mine.  I just didn't want to face doing it and was worried about losing all the points in some of the games I play.

Re: Question on getting a new Ipad

I just got a new IPad Pro in May. Transferring was super easy. At startup it told me to set them close to each other and it would do the rest. Took lots less time than downloading from the cloud. I was transferring from a 4-5 year old iPad. Don't know if it works for older models than that.

DH just got a new iPad last week and his updated just as @Meowingkitty described. So easy and he's not particularly tech savvy.

I transferred my content and data from a 6 YO iPad Air to the new model. It worked flawlessly. I then restored the factory settings on the old one and gave it to my niece.
