My laptop has  problems - a tech has verfied that I have to send it back to the factory to have parts replaced (still under warranty) therefore- I want to know how to protect my personal passwords etc. and I assume if I turn it back to it's ORIGINAL like new settings-like I JUST BOUGHT IT---- that that will work. SO does anyone know how to do that? I'm not talking about system restore points- I'm talking about "like new" just got it factory settings with only the windows operating systen and basics. CAN ANYONE HELP WITH THIS? TIA

What brand?  Most have a recovery partition (D) you can access through Computer or Programs.  If you go through Programs, look for an entry called Recovery Manager or something similar.  Open it up and follow the instructions.  You can also do a Google search for your brand and operating system then follow instructions.

Make sure you do a complete backup before you restore to factory settings. You will lose everything that you don't have backed up to the cloud or external drive or disc.

When i had to send in my tablet they told me to put all my information onto a thumbdrive and they would wipe out the board for me. I did , they did. When I got it back I reinstalled the info on the thumbdrive. A different tablet I was not able to turn on and lost everything but when I got a different tablet I soon found out all my info was out there on the net - all I had to do was go to the cloud and put in my password and there everything was.All my contacts , all my passwords, all my sites --everything - including the passwords to my  banking and investing sites. And all that was needed to access them was my cloud password.SCARY.
