Ah, so it's just the Roku3. Thanks for that info. I really love this thing! One of my favorite things is the earbuds that plug into the remote. I've been in the middle of a 100-episode series lately and, especially with my tinnitis, I have a hard time hearing. Those are so much nicer than when I use my 'over the head' wireless headphones, because I can lay down and be comfortable.

But they also added YouTube with Roku3 and I guess that's been popular. I don't go there that often, but it's nice to have. Smiley Happy

From what I read on Amazon, it doesn't matter which Roku you have, I just didn't know that it had been added since I bought my Roku. Back when i set mine up, you couldn't stream the free Prime included videos and everything was a separate purchase. It's the same with my Tivo now - I can purchase things on Amazon Instant Video, but I have to use my computer to stream the videos I've basically already paid for with my Prime account. It's very frustrating.

Yeah, I wish Tivo would get Prime. But now that I have the Rokus I don't think about it as much. They should, though.

Glad you can update your existing Roku to get Prime!

Hello, I love Netflix! I do get the streaming with the 2 dvd subscription. I get my money's worth because we can stream shows at our own house, my 2 kids at different colleges can stream there and my mother can stream at her house. All off of just my account! So for 22.00 I paid a couple dollars more to be able to use more devices. That 22 bucks gives me the 2 dvds and lets 4 different households to enjoy the streaming.

Your mom could stream shows at her house without you even having to be there, as long as she has a device to stream on and your login.

Just so you will know, they only allow so many devices to stream at once. Once I tried to use mine and it told me I couldn't because too many were being used. We had to block my son's friend, so I could use it.

That had happened to me also. I had been able to use all those devices for a few years so far and then suddenly I started getting a message on screen that too many devices were being used.

I went into my account to change my streaming plan to to be able to use 4 devices at once instead of 2 and I have not encountered any problems since. Paying a few bucks more to stream the extra devices is still worth the money.Smile

Re: Netflix-how does it work, is it portable question

As an existing customer of at least 5 years, I am a little ticked off at their "bait-n-switch" methods recently..

For example--I had saved to "My List" several TV series that I wanted to watch in "marathons"..(I had not watched them on TV as I like to see the series from the beginning so I know what is going on!)

I had Entourage...24...The Wire..and several other series saved.

I was at Season 3 or 4 of 24 (which had 11 Seasons I think) when suddenly w/no warning--Netflix pulled it from streaming and now I have to "upgrade" to DVD to view it.

Formerly--DVDs were included in your $8 membership (correct me if wrong?)..but now it's an additional charge.

They also pulled The Wire/Entourage and others.

I feel we should have warned so that we could view them prior to them being pulled.

Since they have come out w/the NEW "24" (CALLED "ANOTHER DAY."..i THINK) I feel Netflix KNEW viewers would be curious about the original back-story of 24...so they pulled it from streaming and put it on DVD membership.

That was NOT the agreement I had w/Netflix when I signed up! Once something was on My List I expected to be able to view it whenever...of course that was a HUGE assumption on my part...but be pre-warned..Netflix can pull anything at anytime w/NO warning..so watch your LIST choices as soon as possible!

I think more and more movies/series will go the UPGRADE/DVD route as a back-door way of increasing prices.

At least they could have "grandfathered in" those programs to customers who had them on their Lists..allowing us to view them ...

Maybe Hulu has those series? Does anyone here have BOTH? ..and do they both offer some of the same shows or does each have special "rights" to certain shows the other can't stream??

I will make a bet that MAD MEN/Breaking Bad will go to DVD next...due to their high ratings.

Also--try out aereo.com (free 30-day trial)--it's $8/month and shows LOCAL (to your specific area) programs using an antenna (in the cloud) instead of rabbit-ears. So between AEREO/NETFLIX/HULU

it's very tempting to get rid of cable! PS--aereo also shows QVC/HSN in my area! Plus DAYSTAR! Plus I can watch C-SPAN or other shows on my netbook anytime...

...sorry such a l-o-n-g post!

FYI if anybody is looking to purchase a Roku 3 -

I was just on Amazon and they are $84.99 today. I've never seen them (new of course) for less than $89 and that was just a couple of times on a one-day deal.

ETA - I just noticed that there is a coupon code on the page that gives you another $17 off for a total of $67.99. WOWZER!

You must buy the $5 app for Netflix called Instant Watch Browser for Netflix. It's a must+have. It lists new movies & tv coming up, soon to be deleted movies & tv, lists everything available by genre, you are able to make lists of everything you want to see. Also, I do move my roku to a 2 nd tv, no sweat, without having to add any thing. They now have a lot of MasterpieceTheater, they do not have a lot of the current popular movies, only a handful. And if a movie is on Hbo, it will never show up for streaming on Netflix.

When you get Netflix, be sure to watch "House of Cards". It's very good. BTW, at home I stream through my Apple TV or my smart Bluray player.

And "Orange Is The New Black". 8)

For some reason, I just couldn't get into that show. I'm house sitting, it's going to be 92 degrees today so "House of Cards" will be playing.
