Need help with Ipad problem

I have the IPad 1 and it has started shutting down and going back to the home page quite often. I have my auto lock on "never" and have tried turning it off to reboot but this hasn't helped. My battery is fully charged. Before I take it to the apple store I thought I would see if anyone here has had the same problem.
