Vista Antivirus 2012 Help!

Vista Antivirus pop-ups are suddenly appearing on my computer and asking me to register,etc. I understand this is a type of malware. Any ideas how to get rid of it? The instructions I have found are very complicated. Many thanks for your help!! ....... Penny
