As you now know, when a computer goes completely dead, it's usually the power supply. The good news is they're cheap and relatively easy to replace.

@Nightowlz, if you are inclined, when you check out new computers look into the mini Mac.  If you have a monitor and a keyboard, it is a good way to get an Apple computer without the big $$$.  LM

PS, Just bought a new MacBook Pro laptop.  Never knew what a mini Mac was until I hit the Apple store.

@Lilysmom Ok Thx. I have a nice monitor, wireless keyboard & mouse. Doubt DH will go for it. He does not like Apple products. If I had a problem he would not want to figure it out.

@gardenman DH thought it was the power supply so he checked it first but it showed it was still good. He ended up changing it anyways & that was the problem. Now he wants to change the Graphics card because this one is making noise. He bought the power supply at Staples for $47. It was $47 online but $57 in the store. DH asked them why & they gave it to him for $47. The graphics card will be more.

I have to buy a new computer too. Will not go with microsoft again.

Cannot decide if a 15" lap top or desk top is best for me and I've thought about it for over 2 weeks now and talked to CS at the Apple site too. Very kind.

I am not mobile. Want great power/processer i7.

(I love my Asus desk top. Is just time now.)

I've never used a Mac. Will learn it.

I realize I can add to the lap top, all I need. The new one is pretty impressive on the Apple site. If anything broke, I'm up a creek tho. Apple store is not close.

Must decide soon.

________eta - I waited until new year to see if Apple would do an upgrade to their all-in-one desk top. Have not heard anything.

@cbrite, I didn't opt for the MacBook Pro with the touch bar.  That was an expensive addition.

I am a first time Mac computer owner and I am very happy with my choice especially since I have ipad and iphone 6+.  It was so easy to load up my music and files.  I went for the 13" laptop and am very happy.  I had a 17" laptop which I bought really for DH.  That was a mistake because he almost never uses it (has an ipad) and I hated the bulky thing to carry around.  I am much happier now.

Whatever you choose, I hope you love it!  LM

We have so many computers! We have a Dell desktop - my DH uses that one the most - he loves windows 10, we have a dell laptop that is also windows 10 that we take to camp with us for the summer, I have a Dell chromebook - love it -and DH & I each have a tablet we take when we are travelling. It seems like a lot but they each have their uses. Plus, of course, 2 smartphones. Now we have a new car with wifi so DH takes his tablet everywhere he goes. We really like having wifi in the car.

@Lilysmom Thanks so much for the information. I am still dragging my feet but I must do this soon. I do not have a ,man to help. Nor firends. Nor family so I'm not sure what to choose. I cannot turn 'off' my Asus now as it's the major problem. Appreciate your time to respond back. : )

I think everyone I know or have known has iphones and ipads but they are all way too busy and no interest in computers. Poor Ted got his stolen....the guy who is 85....he let someone in to take care of him over night. Poor fellow : (
