I knew it was going to krap out with all the noise it was making. At least we have a pretty recent backup. DH may be able to fix it when he has some time to check it out. He has nobody to ask since he's the go to guy for everyone else when it comes to computers.

I can't decide whether I should buy another cpu or a laptop. I don't know If I want to use a laptop all the time. I don't think I would like it unless I hooked up a separate keyboard to use with it. Not very comfortable with my wrists on the top/edge of the laptop.

I also want to get rid of the computer desk & would like a computer armorie of some type so I can close it up & not look at it when it's not being used.

So sad about your poor desktop.  I know what you mean about typing on a laptop.  I have a nice keyboard and monitor setup at work, where the monitor is very large (actually I have two of them side by side), and it's much higher than the keyboard so I don't have to scrunch my neck, and the keyboard is at the right level for my arms.  When I'm home on my laptop, I can't type for s--t.  I do so prefer the portability of a laptop, and the fact that I can just slam it shut and it's out of the way.  I actually keep the thing right on my breakfast bar so I can open it conveniently while I'm having breakfast (gotta watch the coffee and yogurt, though).

@2blonde I have an iPad but don't want it for my only computer source. I bought it so I could take it when we travel or a night when i'm kicked back in the recliner.

I never thought about using my monitor & a keyboard with a laptop. I will have to check it out.

We have 2 laptops but one is older. DH has the newer one on the breakfast bar in the kitchen but I have it in the living room right now. He won't like it when he gets home. Mr Grumpy LOL!!! He told me I could use the older laptop for now. I said I don't think so. I can use it all day while he's at work so he can use it when he comes home & I can use my iPad to keep the Peace.

I guess I could always use my TV to get online. I'm pretty sure I can do that but not positive. It would take some time to figure it out. I would crazy without a computer & internet.

@Nightowlz  Living alone, I would feel so "disconnected" without the internet at home.  I also would have had to actually go to brick and mortar stores to do my shopping.......eek!  I love my laptop, but for serious work or typing, I need a desktop with a real keyboard and monitor.  Luckily, I don't do much serious work at home!

When my desktop started acting up, maybe a year ago, I bought a laptop just in case!  I hated that thing!  Absolutely HATED it!  So when the desktop finally died, I bought a new one and the laptop just sits here! Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I love laptops!   ONce I started with laptops I have never looked back.   They seem to last much longer for me. That, of course, with caveats.

When I first started looking into a laptop I did some research, as I'm prone to do.  I found that heating up is one of the worst things that can happen to a laptop.   I use mine on steel mesh stands.  I also use a mouse, but that's just my thing because I don't like the scrolly pad thing on a laptop.   I always have my marble mouse attached (love those!).

What I did in my office was that, since I still have my old Dell monitor that I like I just hooked one laptop to that monitor, and to thekeyboard and to another of my marble mouses.   So, that's on my desk upstairs and it is like having a desktop there.   The one I"m using there is almost 6 years old - way more years than I ever got from a desktop.

I use 15" laptops and those are fine for me.  My husband uses 17" laptops.

The one I'm on now is an ASUS that I got from Amazon earlier this year.  I love the laptop, although I don't love Windows10.  It is such a piece of carp I can't even say.   Every time there are updates it corrupts one or more or my programs and has even just completely made some disappear.    Doesn't work well with others.  But the laptop is extremely nice.

I also have a Lenovo (the 6yr old one), an Sony VAIO (4 years old), and Toshiba.   I like all of those brands a lot.    This newest one is my first ASUS and I'm pretty impressed.

After my current a-i-o desktop dies, I'm going to buy a Win10 tablet with keyboard. It's the best of both worlds.Smiley Happy

I took the laptop DH uses & hooked it up to the desktop monitor & keyboard to use until DH can tell me if he can fix it or not. It works. He does not care for it. LOL!!! It will give him incentive to find out if he can fix the desktop or not. At least I won't have to wait as long this way. The other laptop works fine it's just not as fast.

DH finally fixed my computer. It was the power supply even though the check he did on it showed it was good. He read online where others had the same problem & changed their power supply even though the test showed it was good & it fixed their problem. I was getting tired of waiting.

My eyes hurt so much being online searching for a new computer. Never did really find the one I wanted for the price. Now I can wait for a while.

DH has the computer all apart in the dining room. LOL!!!
