Suddenly I cannot get Mail to open on my Mac.  Tried a few different remedies but no luck.  Any simple ideas?  I am not too tech savy but would like to try before I call Apple.

What have you tried so far? Does it just nothing when you click on the icon? It might open in Finder. Also restart your computer. If you downloaded this week's update, it could be a bug.

@bargainsgirl

You can try deleting the app, and then re-loading it?

This worked for me a few days ago...

What e-mail program are you using?

I use g-mail.  Never had a problem since I got the laptop 3 years ago.

            @bargainsgirl, Are you using the native Mail app to access your mail?  Here's the icon:

             It would help to know more specifics, such as exactly what steps you take and what's happening when you try them.

            If you're saying the native Mail app won't respond when you click on it, try going into "Applications" and find it there, and try to launch it.   Another way to "wake up" an app that won't respond to a click/tap is to use Siri -- tell Siri to open Mail and see if that will work.   If the icon is on your dock, you can try removing it, restarting the device, and adding it back, or you might need to "force quit" the application.   Even your mail preferences data might have been corrupted...  there are many possibilities.

            I prefer to access Gmail through the browser rather than the app, and that's always an alternative if the app has problems.  There are other troubleshooting tips some of us could offer, if we can have a little more information.   By now, perhaps the problem is fixed and all is well...  so that's what I hope for you, with fingers crossed.😊

@bargainsgirl @dooBdoo  That force quit trick works for me when I've had this problem.  Sometimes I think I actually have "touched" or strayed onto something accidentally with my mouse that I didn't intend to and have had this happen.

Also love the escape key--that has helped me when I've trapped myself with a very reduced screen size and print.

Stay calm is my motto and if worse comes worse unplug, wait and plug in again, since I am NO computer whiz by any means!

            So many great, basic troubleshooting tips, @aroc3435!   An app can be open in background without our realizing it, or all sorts of file corruptions occasionally can crop up.   The Activity Monitor can help us spot what otherwise seems invisible, and we can carefully force quit through that application among other things.

            I would caution to perform an orderly shutdown before unplugging, if at all possible.   Also, sometimes the Disk Utility's first aid can fix problems -- often when used in recovery mode and then with a restart to the computer.   Now and then I start up in safe mode, then shut down and restart the device.    I've been teaching and troubleshooting Apple computers since the mid-1980s and some of the problem-solving tips haven't changed, that's for sure.😊
