MacBook Pro--So Bizarre--But I am Elated

Shortly after downloading El Capitan way back when the trackpad on my macbook quit working.  I wasn't sure whether it was the download that affected it or if the trackpad just went bad.  I tried all sorts of things to figure it out to no avail and just figured the trackpad was bad.  I just resigned myself to using a wireless mouse.

I recently downloaded OS Sierra and just today noticed my trackpad is working again.  And what is even more strange.  I am able to use the trackpad and the wireless mouse at the same time.

I am elated.

That's odd.  I'm one of the few who never uses the trackpad and wouldn't know if it stopped working or not.  I wonder if it got turned off with one update and turned on with the other?  The other possible reason, the driver got corrupted then reinstalled.

As a non-tech person, it has been my experience that with some updates to my IPAD, some critical settings have been changed, and then need to be changed back for MY use.

Perhaps that happens with the laptops as well.

Wanted to add, I think dooBdoo had pointed that out originally, so she deserves the credit if it is good info for any of you.

Well the trackpad isn't totally fully operational.  I can navigate with it, where before the pointer was very unstable.  However I cannot drag.  So there is still damage to the trackpad, but I am still elated that it is partially functional.  I do have a newer MacBook but I keep using my old one.

I do hope @dooBdoo reads this.  She and several others were so helpful when I originally posted my woes.
