I am so close to tears....Ive been trying to reset my password for almost two hours.  Wont allow me and keeps asking me the same apple id over and over again.   I get to the verification stage, I put my cell phone # and I get the code.....put in the code and it brings me back to step one.

I dont know what im doing wrong.  Im ready to pack this up and get another HP.   If anyone can help me I will be so truly thankful and honestly appreciate it.

If you can't find help from someone in person (friend or family member), you can go to an Apple Store and get help there.....if you happen to live where an Apple Store is located.

You can call AppleCare & they will help you. Or you can visit an Apple Store, but you have to make an appointment first. Don't panic it's probably an easy fix.

Another poster recommended googling your problem. I do that a lot when I have an issue with my iPhone or iPad.It's worked nearly every time.If that doesn't work try one of the above suggestions.

remember that you need 2 passwords

1, your Apple ID

2  the password to login to the laptop

don't confuse the 2

Best Buy stores also have authorized repair/help services for Apple products - you still need an appointment via Apple.

But I agree about googling the issue - I always seem to find help that way.

But since your Mac is new I'd call Apple.
