Mac Book Pro Printer Question Again

[ Edited ]

Those of you that have the Mac Book Pro....what printer are you using?  In my research, I'm reading that we need an AIR printer which is why we aren't able to print from our Apple devices.  Could this be true?  Thanks.

Re: Mac Pro Printer Question Again

Hmm what is an AIR printer, do you maybe mean wireless?  I know that when you print wirelessly, you need to see the name of the printer in the dialog box and you need to be connected to you home network

I use a Canon wireless printer.  It is a MG4500.  It's funny you posted this question, as I just printed with it.

Re: Mac Pro Printer Question Again

I have a MAC Book Air and use an HP Envy 4500 printer.  With your Pro, you should be able to connect directly to your printer or through Wireless.

You need the AirPrint capability if you want to print out from your Iphone or Ipad.  Just because something if Wireless capable, does not mean it is AirPrint Capable.  If you  have an older printer, it may not have the AirPrint capability.  If you are buying a new printer, make sure to ask if it has that capability.  My HP Envy does have the AirPrint capability.

No, @Mz iMac.  It's a laptop, my husbands.  He can't print.  Took it to the Apple Store and they cleaned it out, added all of the updates that my husband had ignored.  Still it won't acknowledge the printer.  I forget the name of the printer right now but it's wireless, about 2 years old.  I can print from my Dell on it but none of the Apple devices work on it.  My IPad use to accept it but no more.

I'm wondering if one of the updates made them not compatible with it.

Thanks all of you that responded.

I'm sorry.  It's called Mac Book Pro, no Mac Pro.

@Mmsfoxxie, I'm sorry you're having problems.  It would help if you could tell us which printer you're using (brand/model).  Also, did anything change at the time the printing stopped working?  (Did you update any software at that time, for example?  Did you make any changes to the printer?)  Exactly what message do you see when you try to print from the MacBook Pro and also what message do you see on the iPad?

Here are 2 support links which might help:

"About AirPrint"

link goes to:  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201311

and

"Get help resolving printer issues on your Mac"

link:  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203343

I'm sorry you're having problems -- I know it's frustrating.

As been pointed out, you don't need an AIR printer for a MacBook Pro to print.  I'd suggest you go to the printer's website, download and install the latest driver for Mac.

Re: Mac Book Pro Printer Question Again

I have an older Mac Book Pro and have always been able to print wirelessly from a couple of different HP printers, most recently my HP8610 (after my previous HP printer needed to be replaced).

Re: Mac Book Pro Printer Question Again

Thanks for the responses @dooBdoo@glb613 and @Krimpette.  The printer we have is an HP 8600 Pro.  It stopped working a couple of months ago for the MacBook Pro, and my 2 Apple Ipads.

This morning, after googling again, I found that a lot of people have the same problem.

I played around with my Ipad and did get it to print once but the next job didn't print.  It said 'searching for printer'.

On my hubby's Mac, as someone suggested, he uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it.  Didn't work.

Quite often, we have internet interruptions so we are now wondering if it is a router problem even though I can print from my Dell.
