@cbrite- This starting to remind of an episode from the Andy Griffith Show. Aunt Bee had a freezer which dying and she refused to do what Andy told her to do which was to call a professional repair over in Mt. Pilot. Aunt Bee was being cheaper or frugal go Gomer to look at and he couldn't fix. After each failure Andy would say "Call the man."

So instead of trying fix yourself, call Apple Care. I'm sure since you purchased the computer directly through them, they will have your information.

Apple CS had no idea what he/she was doing and disappeares without any solutions.

If he had no idea what to do, then he could easily transfer you to certain tech/rep who can help you.
