I got a message on my tracfone today letting me know that they will be updating the network in my area and that my 2G phone will no longer work. I'm pretty sure it is an LG Treasure. I had an online chat with CS inquiring how soon this would be happening. He said that it would be within the year but couldn't guarantee how long the phone would work. I asked what type of phone I should be looking for, and he told me 3G or 4G. Has anyone else had this experience? I would appreciate any suggestions you might have. I don't use my phone a lot, so I don't need the latest and greatest but want (need) to update. When I look through the phones on the tracfone site, I just get confused. I checked the offerings on QVC and HSN and find conflicting reviews. My current phone was purchased on HSN. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@neetsPA - I was crushed last year when Tracfone notified me that my beloved teeny, tiny 2G Tracfone would no longer work. For my minimal purposes it was perfect. I now have a smart phone that is larger than I would prefer but it also does what I need it to do (and then some). The one I got is an LG Premier. We just got my husband a Samsung J3 Luna Pro when his old Tracfone died an unnatural death. Maybe others can suggest specific phones they like. We both do fine with our new ones. But boy do I miss my tiny one. :-(
Good luck - change is sometimes hard!

@neetsPA How long have you had this phone? If it's the LG Treasure it should be fine. 2G phones are usual pretty old and flip phones. When I google the Treasure it says it's 4G LTE.
How did they send you the message? If it was a text it might have gone out to everyone. If you look at the phone up top by where the bars are next to that it should say 3G or LTE. If it does you are fine.

That happened to my mom a couple of years ago. TracFone gave her a free phone for her troubles. It wasn't anything fancy. She ended up dropping it last summer and breaking it. I got her the LG Treasure for Straight Talk and it is indeed a 4G LTE. You should have no troubles if this is the model you have.

Same thing happened to me on TMobile, except they didn't let me know. I had to figure it out myself. Anyway, my trusty flip phone was 2G, so I had no service. I replaced it with an LG Aristo from eBay. Bought a new SIM card and I was back in business. I recommend going with a 4G because some networks are already moving to 5G, and you don't want to go obsolete in the new few years.
HTH!

pigletsmom, I have had the phone almost 2 years. There is nothing at the top of the phone, but based on other responses, the Treasure is 4G. I received the message when I turned on my phone today. It probably was a general message. Thank you so much for reassuring me.

@neetsPA, wow!!!!!
I thought all the 2G had been eliminated by now.
Yes, they've been shutting down service to obsolete 2G for well over a year now. Most people with 2G phones have upgraded on their own. 2G devices haven't been sold for years.
Don't waste time considering 3G, go right for a 4G phone.
VERY Unwise to buy a phone directly from TracFone.
Too much can go wrong and TracFone's policies on returns, repairing defects, shipping protocols, etc don't work in the buyer's best interest.
Suggest you only buy a TracFone phone from either QVC or HSN. This is the only option that allows you to use ALL the features for weeks, and still return it for a full refund of purchase price if necessary.
Also, if you just happened to get a defective unit, you simply return it as "defective", and eliminate the nightmare of trying to get it repaired thru TracFone.
These should help:

Google tells me they made an LG Treasure 2G.
And it defies logic to think they sent a broadcast text to ALL TracFone users, when only a tiny minority are still using 2G phones.
You got the message because you are using a 2G phone and need to replace it before you lose service and all your minutes.
