My computer can't be upgraded to Windows 11..

 

We don't have Wi Fi..I was told I needed to buy a Ethernet( now on my computer) docking station..

 

? Is a thunderbolt port the same as aUSB-C? On a laptop..

the docking station states I need a thunderbolt port..HP knew nothing about what I was talking about...I can get the model # from HSN they can't give me a name..(EX: HP ENVY)..so I'm stuck.. don't want to buy the wrong stuff...Thanks for any help for this dumb old  lady!

If your laptop has an ethernet port then plug an ethernet cable into that. If it doesn't have an ethernet port but has an USB or USB-C port instead then you'll need an adapter for the USB port for the ethernet cable to fit there.

Purchase a USB-to-Ethernet Adapter or a USB-C-to-Ethernet Adapter. Whichever port your laptop has.

@Jo1313 : Totally agree and understand. We just try to do our best with all the tech stuff.

I love and appreciate  all the help that I have received from so many people on the different forums.

Find someone you trust to figure this out.  If you don't have WIFI at home, all you need to do is buy or rent a modem and/or a router to have a signal from your internet connection.  What you describe here is old technology.  All notebook/laptop compters have built in WIFI capability.  You need a way to broadcast the signal.
