I have a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 that I bought in November 2013.

There are now 3 apps that are no longer compatible with my Kindle.

I have tried side loading the apps, and that doesn't work.

My question is, do I just replace the Kindle with a newer version so that my apps will work?

Are there any other options for me? I don't mind upgrading to a newer model if that's the easiest/cleanest answer.

I have the same Kindle HD and my Words With Friends won't update the games and Candy Crush won't play. 

I don't think there is anything you can do.  I'll be waiting for an anwser just in case there is a fix.

I do have newer Kindles, so I usually don't use this one unless it is just for reading or looking at Facebook.

You may want to look at the Samsung Galaxy S2. Amazon sometimes sells these for $299. This is  lightweight 8 " fast tablet.

Interesting. I have a first gen Kindle Fire and a Kindle FIre HD that I bought in July 2015 and both play Candy Crush with no trouble. Uninstalling and reinstalling might be beneficial, but you might lose your progress.

I have uninstalled things and can't re-install them if the app is no longer supported.

Made that mistake once so far.  LOL

I guess it's a new one for me next month.  Happy Birthday to me!

I was just checking and Candy Crush still plays on my old first gen Kindle Fire. I wonder if your version wants a permission you're not granting it?

@mima  I just got a request to play Words with Friends and when checking the app, I found out that a new one came out in January.  

Don't know about compatability with the original.  She plays on the older version.  I have the Kindle fire HD 5th gen.  Not sure which one I need yet.

I guess I need to uninstall it and reinstall Candy Crush.  I won't lose my place because I also have it on other devices. 

What's weird is that CC works on my 7" HD, but not the 8.9".  They were purchased a couple months apart.

Words with Friends will work but I have gobs and I mean gobs of games that were never finished and it won't let me play on them.  Again, it works on my 7" HD.  I guess I'll take WWF off and put it back on too.

I'll let you know if it works.

When I went to download Words, I noticed that the older version has a Feb. update.  It did install and appears to open OK.  I have to set up an account yet.
