Kindle Fire HD 8.9 return/exchange

first time shopper here... What is anyones experience with qvc's electronics exchange? I received the kindle fire hd 8.9 yesterday and after getting it setup i put it on to charge and now it will not go past the kindle fire boot screen... the support cant figure it out and said return it...

I am toying with just spending the extra money and getting an ipad or galaxy tab, will vqc send me another or will they just refund it? how long do replacements usually take in others experience?
