If you are comfortable with the Kindle Fire stick with that.

While personally I feel that the Amazon tablets are cheaply made and you get what you pay for.  iPads themselves are expensive.  You can do everything on an iPad that you already do on the Kindle.  The operating system is obviously different.

I also have to ask do you use an iPhone or an Android phone? If you are using Android stick which the Amazon or upgrade to a Samsung tablet.  If you are using an iPhone, think about the iPad - you can share apps and docs btw the two.

Thank you everyone.  I do not have a smartphone. I have a jutterbug flip that does everything, but no internet connection.  She argued with me to get an smartphone, said my phone outdated.  I just got it and tx.  The difference is, I cannot use the phone outside to get emails or internet.  My argument to her was, why do I need email or internet out side?  I have a computer and kindle to do those things at home.  My friends have none, we call one another on the phone to speak.  My phone is basically for emergencies.  It has the 5star GPS in case of problems on the road or at home. I  tx less than 20 a month Most 10 times and that is the only way I can speak with her or grandson.  Other than that, I don,t tx.  I, find with. All I have, too much time gets wasted for me.  I want a simple life, so I think what I have is enough.  It,s not that I,m old fashion, just don,t need to be on devices all day.

You remind me of my MIL.  She also has no use for technology and has a Flip Phone (which is never turned on LOL).  You are miles ahead of her since you actually use email and the internet.  MIL does not have any internet access and refuses to try to attempt.  We debated getting her a smart phone to replace her home phone (which is a cellular modem connected to a regular phone) when her modem went down.  Ultimately decided to keep what she already had and was comfortable with.

The only reason I would like her to have a smart phone is so we could track where she is while she is driving.  She has gotten lost a couple times so we worry.  Can't do that with her Flip Phone.

You can with the jutterbug.  It has the 5 Star GPS AND IS A FLIP,.  THEY ALSO HAVE IT IN A SMARTPHONE, but I don,t need the internet outside of my home. It,s better than  the tracfone I had, never used the internet.

If I was in business or did a lot on the internet beside surfing, I would have one.  I,m not against technology, just don,t need all that stuff.  I would feel lost without my computer.  I can see your concern for your mother.  Look into the jutterbug

There are some newer and cheaper iPad models in the Apple Store website. Take a look so you can compare prices.

If your kindle does what you want it to with no issues, why buy a new devise.

The Kindle vendor stated that the 8" Kindle is the most popular tablet in the world!

I agree completely! Apple fans like to think their products are vastly superior in every way, but in reality, you point and click, or touch and swipe, and they're nearly identical in terms of performance.

I had a woman ask if she could use my phone to call for a ride a while back while we were in a waiting room as she'd forgotten to charge her phone. When she saw it was an Android phone she handed it back and said it was too complicated, she was an iPhone user. I didn't take it back and simply told her, "See the icon that looks like a phone? Tap that." She did and the  phone touchpad came up. I told her to enter the number she wanted to call and she did, then touched the phone icon to dial. She was shocked it was so easy. In her head, anyone using an Android phone had to be really smart because they're so complicated, but in reality they're no more complicated than an iPhone. She was absolutely stunned an Android phone was that easy to use.

Apple's created this mystique that their stuff is so much easier to use, but modern Windows and Android operating systems are just as easy these days.

Re: Kindle 7th Generation vs ipad

I have an older iPad. It works well and still holds a charge after five years. I own a Fire  10. It is a nice device but not an iPad. There are tech reasons I don't like it. The keyboard is not as responsive. There are not as many Apps. The wireless card can be a little buggy. It is not a bad product for the price.

It is a great item with a Prime account.

My favorite tablet is Samsung galaxy .  The Apple cloud does not run my world. I can use SwiftKey to type. It is much better than the Fire 10 keyboard. I usually find my favorite Samsung S2 tablet. Someone said, you should buy a smartphone and tablet with the same OS.

I think most people are that way.  They convince themselves something is not necessary, too difficult, they can't learn how to use it and the list goes on.   That type of thinking turns into a self fulfilling prophecey.  No one is born knowing how to use electronic devices.

You are right.  I started in my late 60,s.  Learned on my own, by clicking away.  I asked the difference because my kindle is fine for me, but daughter wanted me to keep up with the Jones, which I don,t need too, as long as what I have works for me.  That,s why I wanted to know the difference.

The big difference is the price. Apple is very expensive. If you are  happy with your kindle then stay with that. I have had fire tablets a few years back. And they are much more improved with HD and  more storage. My friend just got a 10 inch fire and loves it. And she is a 'Prime' customer and takes full advantage of the perks. She is very happy with that tablet for reading and almost everything else. For the price and what it does its a good tablet.

Amen to that.  Mine is also the fire 10 and a Primemember.  I like it.
