Can anyone tell me the difference. I have the Kindle, but my daughter says Kindles are outdated, I need to get an ipad. Is there a big difference?
Thank you in advance. I am 83 and have been using a Kindle upgrading from the 7.9 to the 10. I watch movies, email, etc.

If you are comfortable with the Kindle Fire stick with that.
While personally I feel that the Amazon tablets are cheaply made and you get what you pay for. iPads themselves are expensive. You can do everything on an iPad that you already do on the Kindle. The operating system is obviously different.
I also have to ask do you use an iPhone or an Android phone? If you are using Android stick which the Amazon or upgrade to a Samsung tablet. If you are using an iPhone, think about the iPad - you can share apps and docs btw the two.

I have the Fire 10" seventh generation and it is fine for the surfing I do ( which is plenty (should be permanently tethered to it). My DH uses a Samsung and the only thing it does better than Fire is printing is easier. The Amazon help line is better than anyone else and if I have a problem they always resolve it.

I'd look at a refurbished IPad. They do so much more and are easy to use for basic things like watching movies and reading. You need someone to help you set it up maybe then you should be fine! I think you would love it!

I have a Kindle Fire 8" and 10", while I like them I favor my iPad over them.

Thank you everyone. I do not have a smartphone. I have a jutterbug flip that does everything, but no internet connection. She argued with me to get an smartphone, said my phone outdated. I just got it and tx. The difference is, I cannot use the phone outside to get emails or internet. My argument to her was, why do I need email or internet out side? I have a computer and kindle to do those things at home. My friends have none, we call one another on the phone to speak. My phone is basically for emergencies. It has the 5star GPS in case of problems on the road or at home. I tx less than 20 a month Most 10 times and that is the only way I can speak with her or grandson. Other than that, I don,t tx. I, find with. All I have, too much time gets wasted for me. I want a simple life, so I think what I have is enough. It,s not that I,m old fashion, just don,t need to be on devices all day.

Stop listening to your daughter
. As long as an item works for you, it doesn't matter if it is outdated. Not everyone needs or wants the latest and greatest.

You remind me of my MIL. She also has no use for technology and has a Flip Phone (which is never turned on LOL). You are miles ahead of her since you actually use email and the internet. MIL does not have any internet access and refuses to try to attempt. We debated getting her a smart phone to replace her home phone (which is a cellular modem connected to a regular phone) when her modem went down. Ultimately decided to keep what she already had and was comfortable with.
The only reason I would like her to have a smart phone is so we could track where she is while she is driving. She has gotten lost a couple times so we worry. Can't do that with her Flip Phone.

Boy is your daughter WRONG! I'm on my 2nd Paperwhite (stasrted out years ago with the old Kindle Keyboard).
If the Kindle forum is any way of knowing, Kindles are just as popular as ever.
They are NOT outdated!
Use whatever device suits YOU best!

Several posters have proclaimed how the Ipad will do so much more than a Kindle....but none of them have ever been able to state exactly what they do better!
There are several ways can you access a website and once you are on a site, it is the same site!
My son has one and he watches his food plot at the hunting camp with special cameras (they are extra).
I would like to know how they are superior (?) to the Kindle. I've used computers since the desktop came out in 1984 and a computer is a computer.
The Kindle vendor stated that the 8" Kindle is the most popular tablet in the world!
