Ipad/Facebook question

Can someone tell me if it is possible to delete/stop the "People you May Know" list from constantly appearing every time I log on FB? The strange thing is that they are people that I have never heard of. The list seems to be endless. It is so annoying. There is no "x" to delete and when I attempt to "remove", a friend request is sent.

I would really appreciate any suggestions or help.
