That's wrong. I would recommend doing some more research on that. Modern kerosene heaters are safe to use indoors.

In some states kerosene heaters for indoor use are illegal. You need to know your own state's laws.
Although there are now kerosene heaters made for indoor use, they need to be used with care. And people need to know not to ever refill them while hot, as kerosene is highly flammable. (They're a portable version of what used to be called a "pot burner furnace" where I live, and they were made illegal many years ago because of the safety risks.)
From a website on this subject:
"Portable fuel heaters have legitimate uses — especially in emergency heating situations such as power outages or extreme weather — but they carry considerable risk. Prioritize ventilation, smoke & CO detector installation, careful fuel handling and vigilant supervision whenever you use these devices indoors. This ensures you're taking a safe approach to keep your home warm and your household out of harm’s way. "

We have a whole home generator outside that runs on natural gas. It comes a few seconds after a power outage and can run for days. It feeds the house through the incoming electrical lines--no cords, no liquid fuel, was installed by pros and checked by city inspectors.
We have a big one, but even a smaller one would keep you warm and safe. I'd sure look into it. We had a portable outdoor at our last house, but it was heavy and a pain to hook up and fuel. And we were younger.

I have a Kerosun brand kerosene heater, a large one in fact. One year my furnace broke down on the coldest day of that winter. It was below zero for several days and my furnace needed to be replaced, not repaired. So I used my Kerosun inside my house for several days and nights until I could get a new furnace installed. Had to open windows to allow for adequate ventilation while the kerosene heater was running but it was a life-saver and it kept the inside of my house from freezing and frozen pipes.

It's imperative to use only high-grade kerosene in those kind of heaters. At the time, I bought the Kerosun brand of kerosene. It high-grade and rated for indoor use.
