I wanted to use my tablet today and found that it was "dead" so I began charging it about an hour or so ago, and nothing. I'll leave it plugged in and "charging" but I am wondering if it will come back to life now. I can't believe the tablet is entirely dead. I've only had it a few months from Amazon.
You may need to make sure it is also actually off. Disconnect it from any charger. Then press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. If you are still not sure connect it to your PC and press the power and hold it while listening for the connect sound on the PC. A couple people reported getting a black screen during the last update and making sure it was off then charging it got them back.
I am the OP who had the problem with charging my tablet. Thank you so much for your responses. Before I called Amazon I did what Rapid1 suggested: unplugging from charger and then press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. IT WORKED and all is well.

Awesome. For some reason you can't hear the sound the HDX plays for shutdown when this happens so you don't realize it's still on.
Yay, so glad it worked. One more thing to consider if something like that happens - try using a different cable. The last time my tablet wouldn't charge, the issue was the power cable and not the tablet. I have cables all over the place and wasn't use the Kindle power cable in the bedroom, that was in the living room. It worked for a month, then the bedroom cable just stopped charging the tablet. I panicked for about a minute before I tested it another room and found it worked fine there. I replaced the cable and all is well again.
Yep, cords can be a big one. The most common failure is the chargers which is why you see tablets now that are being sold without chargers just cable's. I have never had any issue with Kindle chargers knock on wood.
