For those "done with Windows 10" you'll be pleased to hear that Microsoft agrees. On June 24th, they'll be announcing Windows 11. Support for Windows 10 will end in 2025. Will Windows 11 be a free upgrade like Windows 10 was? Probably, seems to be the consensus. Will Windows 11 be better than Windows 10? God only knows. We'll find out more next Thursday. It doesn't look like too radical of a change from the leaked versions circulating on the web. How accurate are the leaked versions? God only knows. We'll find out next week.

Apple isn't free of update problems but, they don't seem to be as problematic.  The only real problem I have was the compatibiltiy issues between Word and Pages.  I finally gave up and bought Word for Mac.  Problem solved.

I've been using Windows since Windows 3.0 which launched in 1990. In all of those years (31 years now) I've had one issue with an update and that was on Thanksgiving a few years ago when they updated video card drivers and replaced my fully functioning video card driver with one that was crippled. That was pretty easily fixed by deleting the new driver, letting Windows search the drivers on the computer, selecting the old driver from the list of drivers it found on the hard drive and reinstalling the old driver. It was about a three-minute fix.

I've always just let Windows install whatever updates they want to install and my computers typically use older, more established hardware so the kinks in the hardware/drivers were worked out before I came along  I've built my last three computers myself and only use four-star or higher rated components that have passed the test of time. Commercially built computers often use junkier components that have bad drivers and are a mess. (But are cheaper for the manufacturer.)

Weird stuff happens from time to time even then, but it's typically not update-related. My computer couldn't find my mouse not too long ago. A series of reboots finally got it back. Windows has some handy code where if you reboot the computer repeatedly it figures out something's wrong and goes back to whenever you weren't rebooting it constantly. A registry entry related to the mouse had gotten corrupted in some manner and Windows finally figured it out and things have been fine since then. Three different mice failed to register (two wired, one wireless) but after multiple re-boots Windows sorted the problem out by itself.

A lot of people won't let Windows install updates. or cherry-pick which ones to install and that just leads to chaos as future updates often build on older ones, and if the older ones aren't there well, bad things happen. I've always just trusted the engineers updating the software to know what's best and installed everything and I've had very, very few issues. Good hardware helps as do good drivers. Letting Windows install whatever updates it wants also seems to help. Maybe I've just been lucky, but it works for me and that's what I'll keep doing. When Windows 11 gets rolled out, I'll wait a few weeks to install it (if given the choice) then I'll install it and see what happens. I don't expect major problems.

Re: I am done with Windows 10

I have been getting numerous reminders to update Windows. I have tried to update Windows 10. Never has the update gone through.

After Microsoft tries to put the update through, my computer goes wacky. I bet this has happened 20 times. I tried all kinds of corrections but nothing has worked. So I am through with trying to update.

I switched over to a Macbook in 2014 after having several lousy computers that ran Windows. I'll never go back to a PC again.

@BriggsiePeawiggle Me either.  Or my industrial grade hubby who was very leery of macs about 15 years ago and a believer now.

I think Mac Air is the best thing going!  VERY light weight, does it all and is sitting on my lap now while I happily type on a real keyboard.  Hubby has to hold that heavy Pro or his IPad Mini--neither of us like the IPad much.

I bought a new pro last year and love it!  I haven't had a windows computer in years.  My 3 Apple products, iPhone, iPad and Pro talk to each other and I like having pictures especially on all three.

I love my Macbook Pro. The Air isn't large enough for me and my lousy vision. I also have 3 iPads....2 Pros 12.9 for different reasons and one smaller 10" that I use for traveling when I want to watch a movie or stream my cable. I like to lie in bed and watch tv to go to sleep, and it's small enough to work that way.
