Help with Windows 10

[ Edited ]

A friend of mine, who isn't computer savvy, is having a problem with her computer.  She turned it on and it boots but, there are no icons on the desktop.  She is not able to access anything, tried a system restore ( according to her) and the computer is nonfunctional.  I looked online and found multiple recommendations for how to either do a system restore or reinstall the operating system.  I'm positive there is no backup and nothing has been saved.  Does anyone have a suggestion I try?  Personally I think she needs a new computer, this one came with Windows 8 and she updated to 10, but, I'm not sure if she agrees.  Thanks.

Try this:

Right-click on an empty space on your desktop. Click on the “View” option from the context menu to expand the options. Make sure that “Show desktop icons” is ticked. If it isn't, simply click on it once to ensure it wasn't causing issues with displaying your desktop icons.

I updated my computer from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and it's fine. There's no reason to replace at this time.

Windows 10 is still suppoted for a while.  But perhaps the time to look for sales has come.

She can't get it fixed because she doesn't know enough and I told her to buy new.
