I've never paid for an antivirus program, @Jordan2 and never had any attacks to my pc. There are several good free antivirus programs that can be downloaded. I used AVG for years before Windows came out with their own antivirus offering.
I assume your new computer will have Windows 10 installed on it? Windows 10 has a good antivirus software called Defender so you shouldn't need to add anything further for antivirus.
I do suggest a malware program though as I think someone else mentioned. I use Malwarebytes here. HTH's![]()

Window Defender is a nice temp program until you install a better anti-virus program. http://www.howtogeek.com/225385/what%E2%80%99s-the-best-antivirus-for-windows-10-is-windows-defender...
There are many great free or paid programs find one that works for you. Most ISP provide customers with anti-virus software "free" with service.

Think you're posting to the wrong person, @Nuttmeg . I'm all set with my antivirus protection here.![]()
Just to be clear though, I suggested Defender for @Jordan2 as well as other antivirus options. Defender should be fine for most users who use common sense online.

I have also been looking at laptops for months, mine is very old, so confusing on what to buy.

I would be embarrassed to say how long I have been considering what to get. Right now my 6 year old computer is still working, but I think it's on borrowed time! I also don't know what I want, it's a pricey investment and I don't want to get something I'll be unhappy with.

The key is to be honest about what you need a computer to do. If 99.9% of the time you're web surfing, then something like a Google Chromebook would be ideal. With the various apps available there's not a lot you can't do on a Chromebook. If you want to play the latest and greatest computer games at their highest settings, then you need a gaming laptop. If you're going to do lots of video editing then you'll need a high powered laptop.
Once you've narrowed the field, head to a store like a Best Buy and try out the keyboards and touchpad on the computers that meet your needs. Don't let them up sell you though. Once you find a computer that meets your needs, has a good feel to the keyboard, and a nice display, you'll have found your computer. It may not be the computer someone else would have picked, but it's right for you.
Too many people let their ego buy their computer (faster processor, more memory, larger hard drive, etc.) but if you don't need that for how you use a computer, you're just wasting money. And check more than one store. Stores can manipulate the brightness, color and contrast on a computer display to make one computer look better than another. Use the stores for testing things they can't manipulate like the feel of the keyboard, but generally ignore the screen appearance. Trust reviews posted online for that information more than what you see with your own eyes.
If you're honest about how you use a computer and what you need a computer to do, you'll then narrow the field. A few visits to a Best Buy, HH Gregg, Staples, etc. will let you further narrow the field until the 'right' computer is an obvious choice. Getting an enormously powerful computer that you never use at more than 5% of its capabilities is a waste. Getting a computer with a keyboard you hate is also a waste. Just use common sense, understand that most clerks will steer you to items they want to sell more than what's right for you, and trust yourself and you'll be fine.

I like this model Dell Inspiron 15 7559. You can find this on Dell's site ask the company to assist you with a purchase. I would upgrade the warranty to a premium one year contract.
