I have tons of papers I need to shred, but i've burnt out my second shredder in a year and a half, even using all the precautions. I was wondering if anyone had ever used a shredding service. Staples will take your papers and sends them to Gold Mountain, which got a Gold Award last year by Top 10 Reviews for shredding services. I am nervous about just walking in and handing them papers that have my sensitive information on them, though. Thanks.

We have a local service (WE ARE RURAL) and over the years we have brought papers of importance to them and we are very pleased and feel comfortable doing so. I just could not keep what I have.. and decluttering has always been my goal.... although I am always behind...

You might also keep an eye open for a once-a-year freebie by a business to get your papers shredded. A credit union in my area does this.
Other than that, I have a shedder and use it regularly. When we moved I had to shred a lot of very old documents. I did a little at a time and it took me hours. It's not fun work either.

Comerica Bank sponsors an annual shredding day. No cost. Just drive up and they take your papers from you and that's it!

Four years ago, I had a few boxes of papers that would have taken hours to shred. Instead, I called a service that parked in front of my house and shredded the old tax forms, old business papers, etc. in mere minutes. I was very glad I called the service.

i do not feel comfortable just dropping off our papers.
after my father died we had to store his patient files for 5 or 7 years ( i cannot remember.) when we were ready to shred them, we had a shredding service come and do all of the shredding first in our storage unit and then they came to our home to do other financial documents.

Googled an annual event in my town, but it was in the Spring. They charge $5 per box, money goes to charity.

When cleaning out my late parent's home, I had a shredding service come to the house. The truck contained a built-in shredder, as well as an internal camera. I watched as several large trash bins of paper were dumped into the machine and shredded, Think I paid about $60 - negotiated down a bit as they were running late.

Those of you who had a shredding service come to your door, did they shred the papers right there or did they haul them away?

My company had a shredding truck come up to our business once a month. We had two containers that we filled during the month. When we had extra stuff was filled boxes. The guys would come in and take all the paper to the truck and it would be shredded right there and then.
If we had extra, we could just call and they would come. It was about $90 for the 2 containers and $5 a bankers box.
I am sure you could call a shredding service and have them come to your house.
