I don't really want to see every pore or wrinkle in someone on Tv's face. every TV in our house is HDTV capable but we don't buy the service and don't miss it. when we had it - we didn't use it.I guess we are odd this way - but I just don't get it. Maybe our old eyes just didn't like it. I felt like it distorted the overall image.
Yes you are odd in this way. What you don't get about seeing a more true representation of a video is not the norm for most. It has nothing to do with pores and wrinkles and so forth but more to do with seeing more picture on a 16x9 aspect ratio.
Many old movies shown in 4x3 resolution(what we grew up watching)have a lot of the picture filmed missing. Might be 2 horses pulling a chariot and you only see 1. Might have 7 family members in the real film but in 4x3 you only see 5 of them.
It has nothing to do with old eyes it has to do with resolution and aspect ratio's. Hey, if you don't like it that is fine with me, but don't blame it on old eyes or pores or pimples. I can think of one thing you mention about not wanting this but I will play nice.

John, when I am sitting next to someone talking to them I see (for example) their eyes- I do not see a huge oversized because of the size of the screen and also distorted picture of them. I don't want to see every vein in their eye and every eyelash and each and every little spot on their skin overblown and eerily clear. That is not how things look to me in real life and thus it is not the way I want them to look on my TV. When I look at my TV screen I want things to look normal - and being that close - that large and that clear is not normal to me. A person's head is not normally 20" high and so extremely well defined.I just don't like HD - so kill me I guess.

It sounds like the tv is too large for the room and/or you are sitting WAY too close to the tv.
I'm blind as a bat, but HD is just a better version and things look nice. But I don't sit too close to the tv. I can see how that would make everything look unnatural.

It's really not the HD, it's the size of your TV. If you are one that has a huge over 50" TV, you are going to see all the "details."
I have had HD for quite some time now, and I sit across the room from it. It is a 32" inch TV, and I love the definition.

The clearer the picture, the better. I don't like watching anything that is fuzzy or distorted. I want to see all the details.

The new TV,s are called Smart and have theapps to stream movies. I have Amazon and stream my movies from my Kindle to it. The TV is hooked to my router. Very HI tech, enjoying it. It is beautiful. Of course it will come down in price, and something better will come along, I have to live in the moment. I could not afford it if I were raising a family.
Good for you! I love to see people of your age enjoying all the technology and knowing quite a bit on how to use it instead of being helpless!
I hope you have many more years.
