I can't seem to get a gif to "gif" in my gmail. I only get a fixed picture of the gif. I've already watched a couple of youtube videos on how to insert a gif in a gmail.  Drag and drop or insert photo or link but when I do that it only adds the actual link to my gmail.  I still have windows 7.  Maybe that's the problem?  Does anyone know why I can't do this?

An outdated OS may be the problem.  Did you check your Gmail settings?

Not sure if the following settings is the same for Window......

If images don't load in Gmail, check your settings.

  1. On your computer, go to Gmail.
  2. In the top right, click Settings Settings.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Scroll down to the "Images" section.
  5. Click Always display external images.
  6. At the bottom of the page, click Save Changes.

I have a Mac.  All I do is drag the gif to the "compose" window.  The gif is NOT static.

I tried using the "add image/photo" icon & the gif appeared "static" in the compose window.   I emailed myself & the gif was NON static.

@Mz iMac,  thanks very much.  I just came back to delete my post because I finally figured it out.  I clicked a different button that allowed me to Upload the gif, then I used the Insert Photo in my gmail.  I sent it to myself and it worked!
