I thought I would check here before calling my computer geek as it may have a simple resolution that I am just not aware of.

I can be in the middle of typing when a google pop up appears "how can we help you?  this happened for the first time ever yesterday, so finally gave up and put it to sleep.  The same thing is happening this morning.

Install AdBlock+ from their website (with the same name).

It's free and will stop all ads and pop-ups.

I would clear history on my computer and run a virus scan.

Installing AdBlock+ is a great idea. It is called an extension in Google Chrome.

You did not say which browser you are using.  In most browsers there is a place where you can look at and turn off pop ups.  Look for something called "Preferences" in your browser tab -- you are looking for the security section of the browser.  In that portion of the browser tab there should be a section about pop ups where you can see if Google has inserted a pop up, and you should be able to turn that off.  Good luck!
