Re: Feeling taken advantage by someone - computer related

If you paid him for work and he didn't do the work and refuses to finish the work, you'll probably have to take him to small claims court to get redress.

Sometimes people misconstrue kindness as weakness. Apparently he didn't ""read"" you right. Time to move on.

I'd consider this a good way to cut ties and not look back. Good riddance to him.

Yes, kindness is thought of as WEAKNESS. I have now officially moved on. I am capable of fixing small things and will continue to do so. I have reached out to my square dance community and there are some who have said they will help me. I have also found a small computer business in our area who told me if there is a problem, to bring it in. They will quote a total price and try to help me in the future.

The computer was totally dead with all my pictures on it. I guess I overreacted and wanted desperately to save them. I should have taken the whole thing to Office Depot, bought a new computer and had them attempt to transfer files. In hindsight I should have done that. I was in my friendship mode just trying to help this guy out.

As of today he did not even give me a call to check up on his work. No emails or phone calls to see if what he did was working. I guess it was a one way friendship if there is such a thing.

Just walk away. You tried to do a good thing and it sounds as though maybe there's something else going on with this guy. If so, it's probably best to just let it go.

Sounds to me like a lot more is going on here other than "computer repair". I need my hard drive cleaned, any volunteers?
